Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said the Tahir Mosque will be a place of peace

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is pleased to announce that on 11 February 2012, its world leader, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad inaugurated the new Tahir Mosque in Catford, London.

The opening of the Mosque was also attended by a number of dignitaries and guests, including Heidi Alexander, MP for Lewisham East and Sir Steve Bullock, the Mayor of Lewisham.

Upon arriving at the premises, His Holiness officially inaugurated the mosque by unveiling a commemorative plaque and then offering a silent prayer in thanks to God Almighty. Thereafter a tree was planted by His Holiness to further mark the occasion.

After offering prayers in the mosque, His Holiness held an audience with local Ahmadi Muslims, in which he urged them to always remember the true purposes of a mosque. He reminded them that a mosque should be a place of inner and outer purity. And he said that Ahmadi Muslims should always maintain an atmosphere of mutual love and affection and thus illustrate Islam’s peaceful teachings to the world.

After a private meeting between His Holiness and local dignitaries, the official reception marking the opening of the mosque began at 6.40pm. In his welcome speech, a local Ahmadi leader, Mr Naseem Butt spoke about how the mosque had been funded entirely by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat itself. He said a number of women had even donated their jewellery whilst young children had offered their pocket money to help fund the mosque.

Heidi Alexander MP, congratulated the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat on the opening of the mosque. She wished the Jamaat well and said that she looked forward to working with the community in future.

Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said that he was familiar with the building already, as before being converted to a mosque, it had served as offices for the local Council. He congratulated the Jamaat and said that having a home for any community was very important and was a means for its growth.

Both Heidi Alexander MP and Sir Steve Bullock also thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat for making donations to their local nominated charities as a further means to mark the opening of the mosque.

The function was concluded with an address by Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, in which he said that all Ahmadi Mosques were built to worship Allah and to serve humanity.

Speaking about the importance of the latter, he said:

“It is essential that a Muslim should never usurp the rights of others and instead he should cast aside all differences of religion, nationality or ethnicity and seek to become the means of support and love for all others. If someone comes to a Muslim for help, then it is the duty of the Muslim to try and fulfil that need.”

His Holiness also spoke about the fear some people held of mosques and of Islam itself. He said such fear was justified because of the acts of extremists who were destroying the peace and security of society at large. However he counselled that such acts were perpetrated by a small minority and were not at all in keeping with the real teachings of Islam. He added:

“Peace in society is a two-way process and can only be established if all parties work together towards mutual reconciliation.”

His Holiness concluded by calling for peace to be established in the world. He said:

“Today we, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, are trying to bring peace in the world. We are playing our role and trying to fulfil our responsibilities in this regard. And so I would request all of you to join us in this task…

We must set aside our own personal desires and instead be concerned for the future existence and well-being of our next generations. We must adopt selflessness rather than selfishness. When we all join together and come to respect each other’s feelings and sentiments then and only then will an atmosphere of mutual love develop. It is then that we will truly see the beautiful society that all peaceful people desire.”

88th Jalsa Salana of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at in Bangladesh concludes

The three-day, 88 th Annual Convention (Jalsa Salana) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Bangladesh concluded on 5 th February 2012 in Dhaka with a powerful and faith inspiring address by the World Head of the community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, who addressed the event from the Baitul Futuh Mosque in London via satellite. The Jalsa attracted over 6,300 people from various countries who attended the event in Dhaka, whilst over 1,500 gathered in London for the concluding session.

The Khalifa used much of his address to speak about the true character of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He said it was the Prophet of Islam who took it upon himself to support all those who were vulnerable, be they orphans or those afflicted with poverty. Further, he said that it was the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who first gave women their due rights and afforded them the dignity and honour they deserved.

Speaking about the Holy Prophet’s desire for peace and respect for all religions, His Holiness said:

“The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) counselled his own companions to forsake their own due rights for the sake of establishing peace and reconciliation in the world. And it was he who called for the protection of synagogues, churches and all places of worship in the same way that he called for the protection of mosques.”

His Holiness said that non-Ahmadi Muslims regularly alleged that Ahmadis had dishonoured the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by accepting Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as a Prophet of Allah and as the Promised Messiah. But the truth was that the Promised Messiah was the greatest servant of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and had spent his entire life advocating total obedience to him and thus his followers were the ultimate defenders of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). His Holiness said:

“For the sake of protecting the reputation and dignity of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) we, Ahmadi Muslims, are ready to make every required sacrifice and indeed we are making every such sacrifice for this purpose.”

His Holiness spoke also of the so-called ‘religious scholars’ who had developed huge followings in Muslim countries. He said that instead of bringing people closer to God, such people were poisoning society with their extremist ideology and taking people away from Islam’s true teachings.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that division and discord had penetrated many Muslim countries to such an extent that segments of society were actually publicly stating that it seemed as though they were being punished by God Almighty. He said extremism was also penetrating parts of Bangladeshi society and that such a path could only lead to destruction.

His Holiness said that the extreme clerics failed to take any responsibility for their actions and continually blamed various terrorist groups for the indiscriminate violence being witnessed today in much of the world. But he said the truth was that such clerics worked hand in hand with terrorists and were continually plotting to harm Ahmadi Muslims and other innocent groups.

Concluding his address with a message to Ahmadis and non-Ahmadis alike, His Holiness said:

“The opponents of our community are trying their utmost to destroy our Jamaat, but they will never be successful. Let it be clear that their efforts can never succeed and indeed their evil plans will soon die a death. The spread of Ahmadiyyat is destined because it is God’s Will.”

Attack will not deter Ahmadi Muslims from completing the Mubarak Mosque

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat condemns the vandalism committed on their new Mubarak Mosque in Chantilly, Virginia, on 29th January 2012. In this senseless act, vandals destroyed nearly every window on the first floor of the new construction, causing an estimated $60,000 worth of damage.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat hopes that this remains an isolated incident. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is the oldest Muslim organisation in the United States and has spent decades presenting the true and peaceful message of Islam to the American public. It has thousands of members spread across the United States who are propagating a message of peace, tolerance and loyalty.

The President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the USA, Dr Ahsan Zafar said

“As Muslims who believe in the Promised Messiah, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, we are a tolerant and patient people and we will continue with our work while the police will do their job. This Mosque will be a source of education, peace, love and understanding. And we will not let isolated cases of intolerance get in the way.”

The international Press Secretary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Abid Khan, in London, said:

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is based in 200 countries and wherever Ahmadi Muslims build mosques they are signs of peace, unity and inclusion. It is a real shame that our new mosque in Virginia has been attacked in this way. We believe that all places of worship, regardless of religion, should be respected.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is grateful for the outpouring of support for the Mosque from the vast majority of the surrounding community. Such expressions of support will further the common goal of fostering a tolerant and peaceful society.

How the Canadian 'Office of Religious Freedom' should function?

Yesterday, Canada’s Foreign Minister, John Baird MP, visited the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad at the Fazl Mosque in London. His Excellency, Gordon Campbell, the Canadian High Commissioner to the UK and other members of staff were also present at the meeting which lasted around forty minutes.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister mentioned how the Canadian Government was in the process of setting up an ‘Office of Religious Freedom’ and sought the views of His Holiness about how such an Office should function. In response, His Holiness explained that Islam taught that every person should be free to practise his religion openly and without fear of discrimination. He said that irrespective of religious differences, all members of a society should live together with a spirit of unity, peace and tolerance and that this was what the Office of Religious Freedom should strive to achieve throughout the world.

His Holiness spoke about the persecution faced by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in various countries, most notably in Pakistan. Speaking about the situation there, he said, that quite apart from religious persecution, the community were deprived also of their basic civic rights. His Holiness said:

“In Pakistan all Ahmadi Muslims are denied their basic rights. We are unable to call ourselves Muslims or use Islamic terms. My name is Masroor, but in Pakistan if somebody calls me this, then that person can be arrested and punished. Thus such laws that persecute and curtail basic rights must be changed. It is essential that religious views should not impact or interfere with Government policies.”

The Foreign Minister said that he was very concerned whenever he heard of such matters and it was against such systematic persecution that Canada envisioned the Office of Religious Freedom to act. He said that he believed that where religious freedom existed, there other rights would naturally develop.

His Holiness also used the meeting to praise Western efforts to promote religious freedom and he said that in particular Canada deserved praise for this. He said that the efforts of the Canadian government to promote integration and religious tolerance had led to the Fourth Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat to once remark that he hoped the entire world would become like Canada. In response the Foreign Minister said that Canada truly valued the benefits of having a relatively open immigration system.

His Holiness mentioned that when he last visited Canada in 2008, he was very grateful that Prime Minister Stephen Harper attended the opening of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat’s new mosque in Calgary and indeed the Prime Minister even delayed his departure for an international summit in Japan so that he could take part in the event.

His Holiness also informed the Foreign Minister that the Holy Qur’an taught respect for all religions to such an extent that Muslims have been ordered to not only protect their own mosques but to protect all places of worship, whether they be churches, synagogues or temples.

"Lack of justice leading to increased terrorism and sectarianism" - Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad

The Annual Convention (Jalsa Salana) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in India concluded on 28th December in Qadian with a powerful and faith inspiring address by the World Head of the community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, who addressed the event from the Baitul Futuh Mosque in London via satellite. The Jalsa attracted over 17,000 people from around the world in Qadian, whilst over 4,000 gathered in London for the concluding session.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad began his address by reminding the audience that the conventions held by the Ahmadiyya community were distinguished from others, because they were exclusively designed to enhance the religious and spiritual development of those who took part.

He said that this year thousands of Ahmadi Muslims from Pakistan had travelled for the event in an effort to lessen the sense of deprivation they felt due to the fact that Ahmadi Muslims were not permitted to host such conventions in Pakistan due to the anti-Ahmadiyya laws that continued to exist.

His Holiness spoke repeatedly about the state of the world, which he said stood on the brink of disaster and destruction due to the lack of justice and equality within society. He said that at such a crucial time, it was the task of Ahmadi Muslims throughout the world to guide mankind towards salvation. He said:

“Today it is the responsibility of every Ahmadi Muslim to protect the world from destruction. This is because we have pledged allegiance to the Promised Messiah, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian (peace be upon him) and by doing so we have sworn that we will always strive for the betterment of all humanity.”

His Holiness continued by saying that the Muslim world was today ravaged by sectarianism and internal discord. Only the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat could claim to be united and this unity was derived through its system of Khilafat.

His Holiness reminded the audience that the well-being of the future was being put at risk by the jealousies of today. The unjust policies and practices of world powers were fuelling extremism and terrorism. In this regard His Holiness said:

“True peace and true justice cannot be found anywhere in the world today. Instead worldly desires have increased beyond all limits. The wealth of others is looked at with envy and jealousy by people and by governments. In today’s world governments claim that they are fighting wars for the sake of peace and to save mankind from cruelty. Such claims are totally wrong and deceitful. The aims of such governments are simply to serve their own vested interests and to capture the wealth of other nations. Thus in the name of justice the blood of mankind is being spilled and in reaction to such injustice more and more terrorist groups are emerging.”

The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat also used his address to counsel against all forms of extremism. He said that any form of extremism had to be outlawed, otherwise the consequences would be grave.

Referring to India specifically, he said that even though the country claimed to be secular, some Muslim extremists had penetrated the country and were already poisoning the society with their acts. He said that the Ahmadi Muslims of India were already being targeted and that the extremists were trying to influence the government to stop the peaceful and humanitarian activities of the Ahmadiyya community in India.

In response to such opposition, His Holiness said:

“Ahmadi Muslims can never, and will never, stop worshipping the One God and following the practice of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). However I say to those who believe in justice and equality, that if you yield to the extremists for the sake of apparent political benefit then your country will no doubt become immersed in strife. If you allow such groups to spread then it will lead to nothing but a moral decline.”

His Holiness concluded by saying that there remained hope and this hope was based upon the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which were of peace, brotherhood and mutual love. To achieve these aims, throughout his life the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) made sacrifice after sacrifice and in this era it is the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat who continue to follow in his footsteps. His Holiness said that all Ahmadi Muslims must therefore understand their responsibilities.

His Holiness said:

“Is it enough for us to simply call ourselves Ahmadi Muslims? Will this be enough to develop peace in the world? No! To achieve peace we must first understand the pain that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) felt for all of mankind. Our every act and our every effort should be towards ending all forms of cruelty. By developing true justice we must do Jihad against cruelty itself. Our Jihad will not be conducted by any weapons or might but simply through our prayers for all of humanity. This is the only way that peace and love can develop in society.”

World should judge religions on their true teachings

The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad has sent a direct message to Pope Benedict XVI calling for the Pope to use his influence to encourage religious tolerance and the establishment of human values throughout the world.

The message was delivered personally by the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Kababir, Muhammad Sharif Odeh, who met the Pope as part of an official delegation of renowned Israeli religious scholars.

In his message, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, spoke of the perilous state of the world. He said:

“It is with regret that if we now observe the current circumstances of the world closely, we find that the foundation for another world war has already been laid. As a consequence of so many countries having nuclear weapons, grudges and enmities are increasing and the world sits on the precipice of destruction.

I believe it is essential, that we urgently increase our efforts to save the world from this destruction. There is an urgent need for mankind to recognise its Creator as this is the only guarantor for the survival of humanity.”

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also said that the world should judge religions on their true teachings, not on the misguided acts of individuals or groups. He said:

“If a person does not follow a particular teaching properly whilst claiming to subscribe to it, then it is he who is in error, not the teaching.

From cover to cover, the Holy Qur’an teaches love, affection, peace, reconciliation and the spirit of sacrifice. Hence, if anybody portrays Islam as an extreme and violent religion filled with teachings of bloodshed, then such a portrayal has no link with the real Islam.”

Speaking about the role of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community practises only the true Islam and works purely to please God Almighty. If any Church or other place of worship stands in need of protection, they will find us standing shoulder to shoulder with them. If any message resonates from our mosques it will only be that of Allah is great and that we bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Him and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah.”

His Holiness concluded by praying for world peace and urging all other parties to play their respected roles for this all important pursuit. He said:

“It is my prayer that we all understand our responsibilities and play our role in establishing peace and love, and for the recognition of our Creator in the world. We ourselves have prayer, and we constantly beseech Allah that may this destruction of the world be avoided. I pray that we are saved from the destruction that awaits us.”

Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat abhors all forms of terrorism

On 19 October 2011, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat issued a Press Release entitled ‘World Muslim Leader sends warning to Dutch Politician Geert Wilders’ (copy attached in PDF).

The Press Release was based on a Friday Sermon delivered by Hadhrat Khalifa-tul Masih V (aba) , Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, in Holland on 14 October 2011. During the Sermon, His Holiness warned the opponents of Islam, and in particular Mr Geert Wilders, about the consequences of their lies and false propaganda about Islam and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw).

His Holiness also used the Sermon to praise the efforts of Queen Beatrix to promote interfaith harmony and tolerance.

Following the publication of the Press Release, Geert Wilders who is the leader of the PVV Party in Holland took notice of its issue and in response sent the following three questions to Holland’s national Interior Ministry:

1. Are you (the Interior Ministry) familiar with the article ‘World Muslim Leader sends warning to Dutch Politician Geert Wilders’ ?

2. (Hadhrat) Mr Masroor Ahmad has said ‘ Listen carefully, you, your party and every other person like you will ultimately be destroyed…? What measures does the Interior Ministry plan to take against this Islamic organisation calling for violence?

3. How is the Ahmadiyya community in the Netherlands related to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community worldwide and to (Hadhrat) Mr Masroor Ahmad?

In response the following answers were given by the Dutch Interior Minister:

1. Yes (I am familiar with the article).

2. According to the Press Release, (Hadhrat) Mr Masroor Ahmad said that such people or groups are not destroyed by violence or other secular activities, but through prayer. In the remarks I see nothing that incites or calls for violence, so I see little cause for any action against the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.

3. The Dutch Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is part of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.

(These responses were reported by the Nieuws Press Agency in Holland on 14 November 2011.)

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat takes this opportunity to thank the Dutch Interior Ministry for fully studying the contents and context of the Press Release issued on 19 October 2011.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat abhors all forms of terrorism and categorically rejects all sectarian or religious violence.

Whilst it is true, that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat takes every opportunity to defend true Islam, it does so only through entirely peaceful means and through prayer. It also condemns in the strongest terms those so called Muslims who misrepresent true Islam as a religion of violence and extremism.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad urges African countries to protect the freedoms they have gained

On 26 November 2011, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat celebrated the Golden Anniversary of the Independence of Cameroon, Sierra Leone and Tanzania in an event organised by the Pan-African Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK. Dignitaries representing a number of African countries attended the function that took place at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden, Surrey.

The highlight of the event was the attendance and address given by the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad. His Holiness spoke of the need for unity amongst the people and leaders of Africa. He said that if all parties preferred the national interest to their personal interests, then Africa could become a true global power.

The event began with a welcome address by Issah Ahmed Wehma, the Chairman of the Pan-African Association, who said that it was always a pleasure for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat to host such events that promoted peace and unity.

Thereafter, various African Dignitaries took to the stage. His Excellency, Wesley Momo Johnson, Ambassador of Liberia, said that it was his fourth visit to the Baitul Futuh Mosque and that each time he came, he felt emotionally moved by the mosque and great warmth within it.

Mr Alhaji Bawah Gilbert Ayembillah, Consular Minister for Welfare at the High Commission of Ghana spoke of the contributions made by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat to his country. He said:

“I would like to thank the Ahmadiyya Community for its contribution to the development of Ghana. The work done for our people by your Community is incalculable. Thus I thank you on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana.”

His Excellency, Mr Edward Mohamed Turay, High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, said that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat had shown true commitment to bettering the lives of the people of Sierra Leone through its humanitarian projects.

During his keynote address, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad spoke of the inequalities that continued to exist between the people of various nations and their leaders. He said that in countries where monarchies or dictatorships existed, the rulers withheld most of powers, leading to restlessness and dissent within the society. On the other hand, even though democratic countries claimed to provide justice and equality, in many instances they were failing to do so. Unfair polices were being implemented and this too was leading to civil unrest.

His Holiness said that Islam had provided the solution to such problems. It taught selflessness rather than selfishness, where each party should be willing to compromise his own rights for the sake of the greater good.

Speaking about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat’s humanitarian efforts, His Holiness said that the community had opened hundreds of schools and hospitals in various parts of Africa. Also, Ahmadi engineers were engaged in efforts to provide water, electricity and other services in remote parts of Africa as a means to help the deprived locals. Such services were rendered without any desire for recognition or reward.

Speaking about African Independence, His Holiness said:

“It is my heartfelt prayer that the African people are able to take full advantage and benefit from their independence. All countries should keep in mind that the leader of a country is the servant of that nation. Whichever laws or regulations are in force should apply just as much to the rich as to the poor. If this approach is maintained, then, God Willing, the freedoms that you have gained after long periods of colonial slavery, will come to be everlasting.

I firmly believe that if the African countries and people unite together and fulfil the requirements of justice, then one day, Africa will emerge as a true global power.”

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also praises Queen Beatrix

During a recent visit to Holland, the world Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, issued a stark warning to Geert Wilders, the far-right Dutch politician. He warned Wilders that if he continued to defame Islam and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) then he and other like-minded individuals would be humiliated by God Almighty.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that Wilders had exceeded all limits of falsehood and hatred in his opposition towards Islam. He said Wilders was motivated solely by a desire to further his own political ambitions and so the time had come to warn him about the consequences of his actions. He said that irrespective of whether Wilders gained further political capital in the short term, ultimately his antics would lead only towards abject failure and humiliation.

Addressing Wilders directly, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Listen carefully – You, your party and every other person like you will ultimately be destroyed. But the religion of Islam and the message of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) will remain forever. No worldly power, no matter how powerful and no matter how much hatred they bear towards Islam, will ever succeed in erasing our religion.”

His Holiness explained that the destruction of such individuals would be achieved through prayer alone and not by any worldly means. He said:

“Always remember, that we can achieve nothing without prayer. We have no worldly power, nor will we ever use any worldly force. But the prayers of people whose hearts have been grieved are enough to shake the Heavens.”

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also spoke of the many decent people who continued to live in Holland and who rejected wholeheartedly the extremist views perpetuated by Wilders. His Holiness said that all such people who care for the feelings of one another and who believe in religious freedom should come together and launch a campaign for peace in the world. This is something that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has long advocated and has been involved with throughout the world.

During his visit, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, also took the opportunity to praise the efforts of Queen Beatrix towards promoting inclusiveness and equality.

Speaking about her efforts, His Holiness said:

“All Ahmadi Muslims should pray for Queen Beatrix because certain sections of the local society have turned against her, due to the fact that she has openly condemned the anti-Islam movement in this country. They are also angry because she advocates the right of Muslims to be treated as full and equal citizens, whose rights and feelings should be respected. Thus we must pray that all plans and schemes against the Queen completely fail.”

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad holds meetings with Norway’s Defence Minister, Grete Faremo and with former Prime Minister, Kjell Magne Bondevik

During his recent tour of Norway, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, was called on by the Norwegian Government’s current Defence Minister, Grete Faremo and also by two-time former Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik. During both meetings the dignitaries welcomed Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad to Norway and congratulated him on the opening of the Baitul Nasr Mosque, which is the largest mosque in Scandinavia.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad met with Defence Minister Grete Faremo on 30th September 2011 at his office at the Baitul Nasr mosque complex. The talks centred on the recent terrorist attack in Norway that took place on 22 July 2011. The Defence Minister said the response of the Norwegian people to the attacks had been positive and that the people had become more united and committed to democracy in the wake of tragedy.

Speaking about the horrific event, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Your country has given a big sacrifice. I understand that many of those who were killed on July 22 were very young. I can realise the pain that your country suffered because on one day in May last year, 86 of our Ahmadi Muslims were killed by terrorists at two of our mosques in Lahore. Those Ahmadis had simply gathered for Friday prayers and were killed in a barbaric fashion.”

The leaders also spoke of the importance of integration. The Defence Minister queried whether the sermons given in our mosques were given in Norwegian or Urdu, to which she was informed they were given in both languages. The Defence Minister said she was pleased to see that the Ahmadiyya mosques encouraged the use of the Norwegian language.

On 3rd October 2011, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad met with Mr Kjell Magne Bondevik who has the distinction of twice serving as Norway’s Prime Minister, first between 1997 and 2000 and secondly between 2001 and 2005.

Mr Bondevik informed His Holiness that since leaving the office of Prime Minister he had founded ‘The Oslo Centre for Peace and Human Rights’ whose main objective was to work towards achieving peace, human rights and religious tolerance throughout the world.

The leaders then discussed the issue of persecution of religious minorities. Mr Bondevik said that he had come to know well the issue of the persecution of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan and was very saddened by it. He said that he sincerely believed that all humans were born equal and created by God and so there was no room for any discrimination in the world.

Mr Bondevik also expressed his gratitude towards the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat. He said that the Ahmadi Muslims had maintained a loving and respectful relationship towards him both during his time as Prime Minister and also after he had left Government.

The leaders also discussed the importance of true democracy, whereby each citizen has the right to partake as an equal member of society.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“For democracy to truly succeed it is essential that democracy is accepted not just in name but also in spirit. I pray that you succeed in helping to bring true democracy and establishing peace and human rights throughout the world.”
