Universe is like glass revealing the Transcendent Creator underlying it
The Messiah of this age Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad wrote:
As man cannot perceive with his physical eyes the Imperceptible Being Who is latent in everyone like fire and yet is hidden from everyone, nor can he find Him through the exercise of his imperfect reason, he has been subject to many errors in his understanding of Him and through his errors he renders to others that which is His due. God Almighty has mentioned an excellent illustration in the Holy Qur’an that the world is like a great hall paved smooth with slabs of glass and a current of water flows underneath them which runs very fast. A person looking at the slabs of glass wrongly imagines them to be water also and is afraid of walking upon them as he would be afraid of walking upon water, though in reality they are only glass but very clear and transparent. Thus, these great objects in heaven like the sun and the moon etc. are transparent like glass and are worshipped by mistake. Behind them, there is a Higher Power at work which is flowing swiftly like water. It is the mistake of those who worship created things that they attribute to the glass all this activity which is being manifested by the Power behind it. This is the explanation of the verse:
اِنَّهٗ صَرْحٌ مُّمَرَّدٌ مِّنْ قَوَارِيْرَ
‘It is a great hall paved with smooth slabs of glass.’ (Al Surah An-Naml 27:45)
As the Being of God Almighty, despite its brightness, is hidden beyond sight, the physical universe is not adequate for its true recognition. This is the reason why those who depended upon the physical system despite their careful consideration of its perfect orderliness which comprehends hundreds of wonders within itself, and despite their pursuit of astronomy and physics and philosophy to a degree which shows that they had penetrated through heaven and earth, could not get rid of their doubts and suspicions and became involved in all types of errors and wandered far afield in their absurd fantasies. Many of them become involved in grave errors and wander far away in pursuit of their stupid fancies. Their utmost conjecture is that this grand system which displays great wisdom must have a Maker, but this conjecture is incomplete and this insight is defective. The affirmation that this system must have a creator does not amount to a positive affirmation that He does in truth exist.

Friday sermon: The Holy Quran is a comprehensive book
By Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, on September 11, 2009
In his sermon, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad quoted the Founder of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Messiah of this age, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. The Promised Messiah (as) mentions that the non-Muslims especially the Christians have borrowed the concept of God from Islam. The editors of Alislam-eGazette believe that it is due to the near impossibility for human mind to comprehend a Triune God, as presented by Pauline Christianity. At any rate, the day to day usage of the Unitarian concept of God by the Christian masses, reminds us of the saying, ‘imitation is the best form of flattery.’
The Messiah stated:
“The Holy Quran is replete with wisdom and insights and does not contain any portion of babble or frivolous. It explains every necessary detail and provides for all human needs. It is a miracle from every aspect. I am ever ready to demonstrate the miracle and beauty of the Holy Quran to anyone who denies it. These days, concept of God and genuine understanding of monotheism are under fire. The Christians have written a lot about God, but, whatever genuine account they have given is about the true and the living God of Islam and not about a dead, crucified and a humble god. I can declare it with fullest confidence that whoever, will attempt to write about the attributes of God, his or her hand will be forced to come to the God of Islam. This is because each and every particle of our universe gives testimony of this God and the imprint of the God of Islam is also in every human heart and conscience. So, whenever humans endeavor to find God, they are lead to the concepts of Islam. This also is indeed an amazing miracle.
Today, if anyone denies the miracle of the Holy Quran, we can put forward a challenge to him. If anyone denies the Holy Quran to be revealed word of God, he should, in this age of learning and science, write arguments about God and I will demonstrate all those from the Holy Quran. Likewise, if he writes on the Unity of God, I will be able to bring those out from the Quran. We challenge, that if anyone writes about wonderful teachings for humanity and religious truths and claims that these are not mentioned in the Holy Book of Islam, we will demonstrate to him the Quranic claimsفِيْهَا كُتُبٌ قَيِّمَةٌؕ ‘Therein are lasting commandments,’ (Al Surah Al-Baiyyinah 98:4) is how true and manifest. If anyone wants to write arguments for the religion of nature or the orthodox religion, I will demonstrate the miracle of the Holy Quran from every angle and show that all truths and essential teachings are in the Holy Quran. In short, the Quran is a book that has all the essential insights and subtleties. But, I assert again that to understand all these teachings one needs a pious soul as is stated by God Himself, لَّا يَمَسُّهٗۤ اِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُوْنَؕ ‘Which none shall touch except those who are purified’ (Al Surah Al-Waqi'ah 56:80).”
Hadhrat Mirza Maroor Ahmad further said in the Friday sermon, “The Holy Quran is a comprehensive book, with a treasure house of guidance and anyone who follows it marches towards salvation. The challenge that the Promised Messiah (as) had issued, continues to be valid today. His followers have also demonstrated to the world that the Quranic teachings are for all times to come. The theories that the Nobel laureate Dr. Abdus Salam put forward also demonstrate the Unity of God and the truth of the Holy Quran. Even today if any Ahmadi researchers ponder over the truths of the Holy Quran, they will be guided to greater truths by God, Himself.”

The anesthesia of familiarity: There should be a Creator for this universe
By Zia H Shah MD
When any honest scientist studies nature, he feels, like Albert Einstein, the presence of superior reasoning power, revealed in the incomprehensible universe. However, as the novelty of any new discovery in nature wears off, we begin to take the beauty, complexity, organization and co-ordination that we see every day around us for granted and many among us become vulnerable to think that it may have come into existence purely by chance. However, when we come across the newly discovered organization in nature our prior inferences are challenged. We are flabbergasted and astounded for a brief period of time and truly applause the beauty of the creation of God for a little while, until we are doped by the secular propaganda of neo-Darwinism again and begin to take things for granted. Anesthesia of familiarity takes over! This Google Knol examines the splendid interior decorations arranged by the bower birds and a lot more.
To drive the point home several different aspects of study of nature are collated in this Knol including the benefit of magnetosphere of earth that makes life possible on our planet. Incidentally, such protection is mentioned in the Holy Quran at least twice in very unambiguous language. The Holy Quran says:
‘And We have made the heaven a roof, well protected; yet they turn away from its Signs.’ (Al Surah Al-Anbiya 21:33)
The article also discusses Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights.

The Privileged Planet: a Documentary
Any humble theist will find the right balance in the debate between the evolution and Intelligent Design camps, in reading the articles and watching the two documentaries included in this Alislam-eGazette.
This documentary, by the Discovery Institute, should be watched in light of the detailed quote above, ‘the Christians have written a lot about God, but, whatever genuine account they have given is about the true and the living God of Islam and not about a dead, crucified and a humble god;’ and the following verses of Sura Hadid:
“Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah; and He is the Mighty, the Wise. His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and He causes death; and He has power over all things. He is the First and the Last, and the Manifest and the Hidden, and He knows all things full well. He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods, then He settled Himself on the Throne. He knows what enters the earth and what comes out of it, and what comes down from heaven and what goes up into it. And He is with you wheresoever you may be. And Allah sees all that you do.” (Al Surah Al-Hadid 57:2-5)

Intelligent Design on Trial: a Documentary
Any humble theist will find the right balance in the debate between the evolution and Intelligent Design camps, in reading the articles and watching the two documentaries included in this Alislam-eGazette. Humility in this study will be in keeping with Sir Charles Darwin’s advice:
“Let no man out of weak conceit of sobriety, or an ill-applied moderation, think or maintain, that a man can search too far or be too well-studied in the book of God’s word, or in the book of God’s works; divinity or philosophy; but rather let men endeavor an endless progress or proficiency in both.”
In this two-hour special, NOVA captures the turmoil that tore apart the community of Dover, Pennsylvania in one of the latest battles over teaching evolution in public schools. Featuring trial reenactments based on court transcripts and interviews with key participants, including expert scientists and Dover parents, teachers, and town officials, “Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial” follows the celebrated federal case of Kitzmiller v. Dover School District. This program was coproduced with Paul G. Allen’s Vulcan Productions, Inc.
In 2004, the Dover school board ordered science teachers to read a statement to high school biology students suggesting that there is an alternative to Darwin’s theory of evolution called intelligent design–the idea that life is too complex to have evolved naturally and therefore must have been designed by an intelligent agent. The teachers refused to comply. Later, parents opposed to intelligent design filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing the school board of violating the constitutional separation of church and state.
“There was a blow-up like you couldn’t believe,” Bill Buckingham, head of the school board’s curriculum committee, tells NOVA. Buckingham helped formulate the intelligent-design policy when he noticed that the biology textbook chosen by teachers for classroom use was, in his words, “laced with Darwinism.”
NOVA presents the arguments by lawyers and expert witnesses in riveting detail and provides an eye-opening crash course on questions such as “What is evolution?” and “Is intelligent design a scientifically valid alternative?” Kitzmiller v. Dover was the first legal test of intelligent design as a scientific theory, with the plaintiffs arguing that it is a thinly veiled form of creationism, the view that a literal interpretation of the Bible accounts for all observed facts about nature.
During the trial, lawyers for the plaintiffs showed that evolution is one of the best-tested and most thoroughly confirmed theories in the history of science, and that its unresolved questions are normal research problems–the type that arise in any flourishing scientific field.

Muslim Contribution to Pharmacy
By Zakaria Virk
This article will focus on Medieval Muslim scholars – physicians, botanists, chemists, and translators who contributed profusely in the development of pharmaceutical knowledge and the art of drug making.
Interest in the development of pharmacy in Islamic lands was driven by poisons, their antidotes and means of detecting the poisons. Therefore much of the groundwork for early pharmacy was laid down by toxicologists. Initially knowledge of medicinal substances was based upon the 600 plants or plant products described by Greek physician Dioscorides (90CE) for 1000 remedies in his treatise De materia medica. Arabic translations of this Greek book formed the basis for much of the future advances made by Muslims in pharmacology and pharmacy. Subsequently numerous Arabic and Persian treatises were written on medicaments. The knowledge Muslim pharmacists inherited from Syria, Persia, India and the Far East formed the basis for future innovations. Muslim pharmacists remained unsurpassed in this field until the 17th century. read more…
The Cosmic Jackpot: why our universe is just right for life
By Paul Davies
The cover jacket states:
“Cosmic Jackpot is Paul Davies’s eagerly awaited return to cosmology, the successor to his critically acclaimed bestseller The Mind of God. Here he tackles all the ‘big questions,’ including the biggest of them all: why does the universe seem so well adapted for life?
In his characteristically clear and elegant style, Davies shows how recent scientific discoveries point to a perplexing fact: many different aspects of the cosmos, from the properties of the humble carbon atom to the speed of light, seem tailor-made to produce life. A radical new theory says it’s because our universe is just one of an infinite number of universes, each one slightly different. Our universe is bio-friendly by accident–we just happened to win the cosmic jackpot.
While this ‘multiverse’ theory is compelling, it has bizarre implications, such as the existence of infinite copies of each of us and Matrix-like simulated universes. And it still leaves a lot unexplained. Davies believes there’s a more satisfying solution to the problem of existence: the observation we make today could help shape the nature of reality in the remote past. If this is true, then life, and ultimately consciousness, aren’t just incidental byproducts of nature but central players in the evolution of universe.
Whether he is elucidating dark matter or dark energy, M theory or the multiverse, Davies brings the leading edge of science into sharp focus, provoking us to think about the cosmos and our place within it in a new and thrilling ways.”

This Knol among other details examines the beginning of our universe, its raw materials and the scientific merit of the infinite number of universes or multiverse theory.
Human Soul and Science
By Dr. Amtul Qudoos Farhat
The nature and makeup of human soul has long been the source of questioning and curiosity. Scientific quest is equally fascinating. What is the nature of soul or consciousness? Are we the human beings merely bodies and brains or is there something we call the soul or the conscious or spirit? Such and many more questions haunt scientific curiosity. read more…
On Dawkins’s Atheism: A Response
By Gary Gutting from University of Notre Dame
But what is the evidence for materialism? Presumably, that scientific investigation reveals the existence of nothing except material things. But religious believers will plausibly reply that science is suited to discover only what is material (indeed, the best definition of “material” may be just “the sort of thing that science can discover”). They will also cite our experiences of our own conscious life (thoughts, feelings, desires, etc.) as excellent evidence for the existence of immaterial realities that cannot be fully understood by science.

Global wind patterns
By William Ferrel
Read this essay in light of some of the verses of the Holy Quran on the topic of winds. This essay is borrowed from Wiki-source. The Holy Quran states:
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and in the alternation of night and day, and in the ships which sail in the sea with that which profits men, and in the water which Allah sends down from the sky and quickens therewith the earth after its death and scatters therein all kinds of beasts, and in the change of the winds, and the clouds pressed into service between the heaven and the earth — are indeed Signs for the people who understand. (Al Surah Al-Baqarah 2:165)
And in the alternation of night and day, and the provision that Allah sends down from the sky, whereby He quickens the earth after its death, and in the change of the winds, are Signs for a people who try to understand. (Al Surah Al-Jathiyah 45:6)
Hast thou not seen that Allah has subjected to you whatever is in the earth, and the ships that sail through the sea by His command? And He withholds the rain from falling on the earth save by His leave. Surely, Allah is Compassionate and Merciful to men. (Al Surah Al-Hajj 22:66)
