Friday Sermon: Nur - Divine Light

September 20th, 2002

Hazoor further elucidated verse (57:29) of Surah Al-Hadid in his Friday Sermon today, expounding on the subject of Divine Light or Nur.

Hazoor said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) enjoined that one who attains old age in the cause of Allah would have their dotage transform into Nur on the Day of Judgment.

Reading from the excerpts of the writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) on the subject of Divine Light, Hazoor said that when one adopts righteousness one obtains distinction from the others and this difference is Nur, in that one is granted Divine Light so much so that one walks in it. This light extends to their wisdom and their speech, it illuminates their path, and the courseways of their senses become profusely luminous. Divine beneficence, as if enters their bloodstream. Hazoor said in death those people would be exalted who have acquired this "living Nur" in this very life, having brought about a kind of death on themselves in this earthly life.

Next Hazoor read Urdu rendering of some Persian verses by the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). These depicted the Nur of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) with reference to the profound love the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) had for the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) and the ways in which this blessed and holy luminousity affected and influenced his heart.

Hazoor concluded on reading a few revelations of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) pertaining to Divine Light or Nur.
