Divine attribute of Al-Musawwir (The Fashioner)

Summary of Friday Sermon Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad(rh)

Huzoor(aba) recited verse 25 of Surah Al-Hashr (59:25) and based his Friday Sermon on the Divine attribute of Al-Musawwir (The Fashioner).

Explaining the root word ‘sawwara’, Huzoor(aba) said it means to form, to shape, to fashion. Huzoor(aba) elucidated the concept that ‘Allah the Exalted has created man in His own image’ in that Allah has created man capable of comprehending and understanding His Divine attributes. Huzoor(aba) said Al- Musawwir is that Being Which facilitated all creation and gave everything its distinct form and shape.

Huzoor(aba) further explained the subject by citing ahadith and said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) had said that Allah would come to this ummah (people) in the form that they would recognise, in that He will manifest Himself through His attributes. Huzoor(aba) added that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) had told us 1,400 years ago that the point at which soul is added to a foetus is when it is over four months old. Huzoor(aba) said now a Canadian professor concurs with this assertion and accepts the truth of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him). With reference to the root word ‘sawwara’ (to shape, to form) Huzoor(aba) said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) enjoined regarding the iniquity of making mausoleums over graves and depiction of various imageries and figurines therein. Huzoor(aba) explained that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) cursed those who ‘depict images’ he meant those specific images that stimulate mushrik (association of partners with Allah) thoughts. Huzoor(aba) said that the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) noted that Allah is That Fashioner Who creates the body as well as the soul and Who makes an image in the womb.

Quoting verse 7 of Surah Al-Imran (3:7) Huzoor(aba) said Imam Razi has explained that this verse points to the Omnipotence of Allah Who indeed creates this most wondrous body in the darkness of the womb. Citing verse 12 of Surah Al-A'raf (7:12) Huzoor(aba) said this refers to Allah blowing the ‘soul’ in Adam (on whom be peace) that made him worthy of the angels submitting to him. Reading verses 7-9 of Surah Infitar (82:7-9) Huzoor(aba) quoted Khalifatul Masih 1st (may Allah be pleased with him) and said that these verses refer to God’s creation of man superior to all other creation and granting him a most temperate nature.

In conclusion Huzoor(aba) reiterated a point that only refers to those who write to Huzoor(aba) in Urdu. Huzoor(aba) said when requesting for making prayers on their behalf, people must not use the deferential verb of ‘dua ferma’ain’, for him. As prayer is an entreaty to Allah the Exalted, Huzoor(aba) explained, the expression of ‘arz’ (submit) should be used without exception.
