Opposition against the Ahmadiyya Community

Summary of Friday Sermon

delivered by the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community

October 27th, 2006

NOTE: Alislam Team takes full responsibility for any errors or miscommunication in this Synopsis of the Friday Sermon

Huzur gave a discourse on Divine succour in his Friday Sermon in light of the recent wave of opposition against the Ahmadiyya Community in some countries.

Recently Sri Lanka and Bulgaria have joined the group of under developed countries where opposition to the Community is roused by the oil-rich Muslim countries via so-called and self-serving religious leaders or mullah.

There are also some weak governments who oppose the Community to appease the powers that fund them. These worldly materialistic people do not realise that no matter how much they try, if Allah wills to guide someone [to Ahmadiyyat, true Islam] their ploys cannot deter that guidance. These people deem to create fear in people’s hearts by their severe and brutal opposition and do not realise that true believers are not perturbed by trials and those who give their lives in the cause of Allah do not die but live forever.

Their opposition has, in the past, always been followed by swiftness in the progress of the Community; would this be a proof of the truth of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) or his falseness?

Huzur said the mullah is himself heading towards the pit of destruction and is taking people with him. The Muslims should themselves come to their senses and use their God-given comprehension; with clear and evident Divine pronouncements present and with signs of the Imam of the age also evident they should act upon what the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) enjoined.

Huzur added that daily bai’ats are received where Allah Himself guides someone towards Ahmadiyyat with true dreams or fulfilment of other signs. Rather than oppose the Community people should pay heed to their mortality and seek help from Allah. In the presence of Allah it will not be sufficient to say that they did not accept [the Messiah] due to the fear of the mullah and the society.

Huzur said with opposition growing in various places, the mischief is always ignited by a Pakistani mullah but it is noteworthy that each set of mischief acts as a fertiliser and we witness subsequent progress. In this regard we are also grateful to the opponents and the mullah that they make way for us and draw people’s attention towards Ahmadiyyat.

Ahmadis should not be troubled by these trials. Historically speaking, the opponents tried their utmost in 1974 in Pakistan. Then a mightier Pharaoh-like [ruler] followed the previous Pharaoh, thinking that the previous one had left some anomalies that he would deal with Ahmadiyyat in a way that the entire Community along with their Khalifa would be reduced to succumb to him. Were his wishes met? On the contrary, the Ahmadis filled up the prisons of Pakistan in defence of the Kalima (declaration of faith) that the enemy tried to snatch from them. All this inclined also many good natured souls towards Ahmadiyyat. What of the Pharaoh? One Pharaoh was sent to the gallows by another who had been his protégé, while in acceptance of the prayers of the Community the other Pharaoh was blown away in the air. This is the God of Ahmadiyyat Whose comprehension the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) gave us, a God Who still listens to the prayers of His servants and the prayers of the Messiah (on whom be peace); today too you shall witness that the enemy will be blown away in the air! Organisations that will oppose us will be reduced to smithereens. It is the way of Allah that He puts some Divine Communities through trials but the ultimate triumph shall be ours – most certainly it shall be ours and no power on earth can stop it for this is a Divine promise made to the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace).

Addressing the Ahmadis of Pakistan Huzur advised to emphasise on prayers. With all sorts of restrictions being levied on the Jama’at publications there and accusations of ‘terrorism’ made – while those who create real terrorism are free to run amok because they are the protégés of powerful leaders. Court case against the printer, manager or publisher of Al Fazl is brought because they wrote that their Lord was Allah and Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) was their Prophet and the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) was the Mahdi. If this be terrorism, then accept it with all our life.

In India, wherever there is a majority of Muslims, the Community faces opposition. In Bangladesh there is physical violence and ensuing martyrdoms because the Ahmadis declare ‘Our Lord, we have heard a Crier calling us unto faith, ‘Believe ye in your Lord,’ and we have believed…’ (3:194). In Indonesia there are destructive protests and physical violence against Ahmadis because in obedience of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) they have accepted the Messiah who came.

Why did these people not support the wicked mullah who is utterly destroying Islam from within? Paying high tribute to these Ahmadis who are geographically so far away and have not ever met the Khilafa of the day apart from through the transmissions of MTA, Huzur said their strength of faith is enviable in that despite all the difficulties they have honoured the promise and pledge they made to the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace).

Huzur explained that the mischief making mullah in Sri Lanka has connections with the regional/provincial government. He has been trained in Pakistan and is using mercenary rogues and thugs to make the assaults as the local population are indifferent to the situation.

In Bulgaria the situation is turning worse as well and a movement is underway on governmental level. The country has approximately 14% of Muslim population and some mullah who has access to petro-dollars is misleading the government. Legal proceedings are filed in the high court. Huzur said the courts of this country are run in the same [corrupt] way as in some Eastern countries. May Allah enable them to reach the right verdict. Although the Community in Bulgaria is comparatively new, their level of sincerity is amazing, which Huzur said he has gauged each time he has met with them during his trips to Germany.

In his counsel to all, Huzur greatly stressed to turn to Allah, he said these are temporary trails which will pass. The support of the Omnipotent God is with us and our prayers will ease this difficult time. We have witnessed the enemy being seized before but it is Allah’s promise that he will be dealt with in the Hereafter as well. The prayer we need to focus on these days is:

‘ Our Lord, we believe; forgive us therefore our sins, and have mercy on us; for Thou art the Best of those who show mercy’ (23:110).

The true believer who stays firm on faith is given an excellent reward by Allah for the resolve. Our task is to focus greatly on prayers (dua). Huzur drew attention to the six voluntary (nafl) fasts of the month of Shawal as a means to draw’s Allah’s mercy.
Speaking with reference to writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) Huzur said nearness to Allah is attained through optional or voluntary acts of worship (nawafil), for example to give extra than the prescribed Zakat, to fast apart from the fasts of Ramadan, or to return a loan with a little extra as the lender had shown regard and kindness when lending.

Next Huzur cited some prayers of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) that he made in time of distress and need. Among these was the prayer ‘O Living God, O Self-Subsisting God, I seek Your mercy’.

Among some prayers of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) that Huzur cited were the revealed prayers: ‘O my Lord, every thing is subservient to You. O my Lord, keep me safe and help me and have mercy on me’ and ‘O my Lord, I am overcome, retaliate for me and crush them thoroughly.

Huzur dew attention of an extract from the writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) to those who reject him. He also explained that the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) would be distressed like an ailing person for those who did not accept him.

In conclusion Huzur said if these people will not desist in exceeding each other than Allah’s chastisement will come to pass, yet we pray that may Allah accept the heart-rending prayers of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) and bring these people to their senses for when [Allah’s] punishment comes it envelops a multitude of people. Seeking mercy we pray to Allah to grant wisdom to the nation so that they may save themselves from these transgressions.
