Friday Sermon: Al-Nur - The Light

August 2nd, 2002

In continuation with the topic of the Divine attribute of Al-Nur (The Light) Hazoor gave his Friday Sermon today with reference to the Holy Quran, ahadith and various commentaries.

Hazoor recounted that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) said that Allah the Exalted created His creation in darkness and then dispensed His Nur onto it. On whomsoever this nur fell attained guidance and to whomsoever the nur did not reach went astray. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) also enjoined that on the Day of Judgement his people would exude nur like the brilliance of the sun and that these people will be among the refuges and the needy.

Hazoor said that oppression is darkness and justice is nur and the nur that Allah the Exalted will create on the Day of Judgement is not of the sort the sun and the moon radiate, rather it will be spiritual light. Quoting from the writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) Hazoor said it is the way of Allah that He does not bring about anything without a cause whether we can observe the cause or not. He elucidated that in the times before the advent of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) Allah the Exalted found the time and era steeped in the darkness of ignorance and wretchedness. In order to dispel this darkness “a moon exuding light” was displayed in the person of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) and a nur of the highest degree was granted to this perfect man, a nur or a light that was not to be found in any other physical matter in the universe.
