Divine attribute of Al Qawiy (The Powerful)

Summary of Friday Sermon Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad(rh)

Today Huzoor(aba) delivered his Friday Sermon on the Divine attribute of Al Qawiy (The Powerful). Huzoor(aba) recited verse 26 of Surah Al Hadid (57:26). The translation reads:

“Verily, We sent Our Messengers with manifest Signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance that people may act with justice; and We sent down iron, wherein is [material] for violent warfare and [many] benefits for mankind, and that Allah may distinguish those who help Him and His Messenger albeit He remains Unseen. Surely Allah is Powerful, Mighty”.

Explaining the root word quwah (power) Huzoor(aba) said that its denotation is multi-faceted, for example it also connotes the inherent power such as that of a kernel that carries in it the power to be a potential tree.

With reference to ahadith Huzoor(aba) explained that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) was the most powerful and courageous among people that he illustrated this through out his blessed life, in particular in the early days when opposition was the greatest. Huzoor(aba) read excerpts from the writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) that expound that Allah indeed is the Greatest and Powerful and that whosoever submits to Him with love and sincerity is never wasted despite the evils designs of the oppressors.

Reciting the following verse from Surah Al Waqiah (56:76) “Nay, I swear by the moorings of the stars – ” Huzoor(aba) proceeded to exemplify one aspect of the Divine Powers by way of astronomy. Huzoor(aba) said that in the universe, the sun is just one illustration of Allah’s power. Huzoor(aba) went on to explain the innumerable benefits of the sun not least that the very existence of life on the earth depends on its energy. Huzoor(aba) described various features of solar energy and provided statistics to elucidate the magnitude of the sun. To further portray Divine Powers Huzoor(aba) also gave some astral information about other celestial bodies that are astoundingly bigger and more powerful than the sun. Huzoor(aba) also touched upon the process of photosynthesis that employs solar energy by means of which vegetation lives.

Huzoor(aba) read further excerpts from the writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) explaining that all the physical attributes in the heavenly bodies are present in Allah spiritually. The solar energy, the human faculties, the rain, the vegetation, everything comes to life as a manifestation of His power. These things are not divine but within them there indeed is Divine Power. The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) wrote that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) was the most perfect manifestation of the Divine attributes, and that just as there are stars around the sun, similarly are his (the Holy Prophet peace and blessings be on him) Companions, who are revolving around him like stars and are getting guidance from his power. Huzoor(aba) recounted that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) said that Allah the Exalted informed him that the status of his Companions was like that of stars to Allah, in that they all shone, some more than the others, but that they all possessed nur (light) and following any one of them would lead one to guidance. Huzoor(aba) also said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) enjoined that power was not about subduing one’s enemy rather it was about controlling one’s temper and keeping the nafs ‘self’ in check.

Next Huzoor(aba) narrated several incidents from the life of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) illustrating his incredible demonstration of patience and trust in Allah in face of disrespect and offence. He said that if he started retaliating in like he would not be able to accomplish his mission. He enjoined never to respond to abuse with abuse.
