Reformation of the Society

Summary of Friday Sermon Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V(aba)

Huzoor(aba) delivered today’s Friday Sermon on the subject of reformation of the society. With reference to verses from Surah Al Hujurat (49:10-11) he expounded the dire need for socio-political justice in today’s world where disputes, disorder, wars – have sadly become the norm. Individuals as well as nations are fully engaged in fighting amongst each other! Huzoor(aba) said the root cause for all this is materialistic greed and worldly gains whereupon individuals usurp others and powerful countries are economically exploiting the weaker nations. The entire world is engulfed in an evil - Satanic – vicious circle of financial exploitation based on the widespread use of "usury" which is backbreaking for individuals and grinds nations under the extreme burden of debts! Huzoor(aba) said at the present time, "true believers" are those who have accepted the Imam of the time - the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) and it is thus an obligation for them, the Ahmadis - to establish peace in the society.

Huzoor(aba) said Allah the Exalted commands us to avoid all sorts of fights and disputes and to help reconcile disputing parties, settling the disputes based on justice. As regards Qadha matters brought to the attention of the system of the Jama’at, Huzoor(aba) said one is obligated to put collective/social pressure on those who disregard a just decision made by the Jama’at. He said friends and relatives of the disputing parties should completely refrain from taking sides and should rather help in the implementation of the verdict of Jama’at against the party/individual who does not accept reconciliation. However, Huzoor(aba) added, once a party accepts the decision of the Jama’at, then the past events should never be brought up; it should be a case of let bygones be bygones. After one is reprimanded and is reformed then members of the Jama’at should accept them as a good member, basing this on kindness and mutual love.

With reference to Ahadith Huzoor(aba) related that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) said that a person who conveys only the positive, good things about respective disputing parties to each other could not be deemed a liar because his intent is to reconcile. Huzoor(aba) added that no harmful, malicious information should be passed on to aggravate an already bad situation. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) enjoined that to reconcile two parties is sadqa, just as observance of Salat is sadqa, and to say a good word (which brings peace) is sadqa. Huzoor(aba) explained that this hadith illustrates that in Allah’s sight service to mankind merits just as highly as worship of God… Once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) went to make peace between two tribes and was so committed to the significance of the matter that he even delayed his performance of Salat while engaged in the reconciliatory talks. Huzoor(aba) reminded all of the hadith that enjoins believers not to remain estranged with each other for more than three days and said that Allah dislikes the quarrelsome the most.

Huzoor(aba) then read some excerpts from the writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) relevant to the topic, cautioning against the ill of disputes, the significance of forgiveness and mutual concord and the great necessity to learn to control one’s temper. Huzoor(aba) advised the Jama’at to routinely say the Quranic prayer (3:9) for guidance and prayed that may Allah enable us to act on the golden admonitions.
