Visions and dreams of the Companions about Khalifatul Masih II(ra)

Summary of Friday Sermon Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V(aba)

Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih said that today he would give the last sermon in the series relating traditions of companions of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). These traditions were collated under different topics and recounted in sermons. The affiliated department has been instructed to go through the records/register once again and if any traditions were missed out, they will be recounted at another time.

It is a super coincidence that the series is concluding in February and is concluding on traditions regarding Hadhrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him). A few such traditions were recounted last week but all the traditions to be related today are regarding Hadhrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him). Five days later Musleh Maud day will be commemorated by the Jama’at to mark the fulfilment of the Musleh Maud prophecy which was a proof of the truthfulness of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). Indeed, Hadhrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) was not born on 20 February.

The traditions recounted today illustrate how Divine assurance was given to people regarding the Khilafat of Hadhrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) and how some, who had joined the Lahore splinter group, were guided and reverted to taking Bai’at [of Khilafat e Ahmadiyya]. Hadhrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) went through times of extreme difficulty and severity. A terrible controversy arose at the time of his election, when those who were known as great scholars within the Jama’at and had also been close to the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace), left Qadian taking all the funds and other effects of the Jama’at with them. Other external and internal controversies also arose but God’s help was always with him and the most resolute of persons dealt with everything extremely valiantly. With God’s grace the Jama’at continued to progress and today we observe how it carries on advancing.

Hadhrat Sheikh Ismail sahib (may Allah be pleased with him): He took Bai’at in 1894. He relates his dream:

I saw this dream in the lifetime of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih I (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding Khilafat of Hadhrat Mahmood. I saw that Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih I (may Allah be pleased with him) is injured and has contracted an illness. I put my hand on the hand of Mian Mahmood and declare that I am his first follower. He replies that he does not understand. Just then someone says that I have been informed via revelation and dream; ‘We have made Mahmood the Khalifa.’

Hadhrat Ameer Muhammad Khan sahib (may Allah be pleased with him): A relative of his has written in to say that this was his full name although in the traditions his name is only written as Ameer Khan. However, a letter of his confirms that this was his full name. His Bai’at date was 1903. He relates:

In November 1913 I saw a dream in which some large dried bean-pods are hanging from a tree and their rustling is so loud that it is difficult to hear anything else. Just then very strong rain starts falling and all the dried bean-pods fall off the tree. Hadhrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) says Satan’s house is destroyed, now greenery will grow on land and fruits will grow. He is asked why did he call it Satan’s house, to which he replies that the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) called it thus. Someone starts relating the prophecies of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) that had been fulfilled in a loud voice and listening to them has a very tranquil and ecstatic effect on the audience. Alhamdolillah, this dream was fulfilled at the time of the second Khilafat when Maulwi Muhammad Ali and his associates had created a lot of noise but then left the Jama’at and also departed from Qadian.

In a dream of February 1912 I saw that Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih I (may Allah be pleased with him) says that a prophecy of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) was that when the blessed promised one will come, a coronation will be held for him. We used to presume this was about the coronation of King George V. We now know that the blessed promised one was a reference to Sahibzada Mian Mahmood and the coronation was a reference to his office of Khilafat. Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih I (may Allah be pleased with him) looked cheered by mentioning the Khilafat of Sahibzada Mian Mahmood and I too was happy. I used to consider the manifestation of the blessed promised one to take place in a distant age and was grateful to God that I experienced it. I was also made aware in the dream that how could Mian Mahmood be the Khalifa as Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih I was the Khalifa. This is when I was informed that he was not going to live to very old age as God’s beloveds do not live to extreme old age.

When Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) went for Hajj before his Khilafat, I saw a dream in which Muslims are under siege of disbelievers. One of us flies up to the heavens and brings down very strong creation who eliminate the disbelievers. I wrote my dream to Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II and said that it signified his tour and angels may descend by virtue of his prayers.

In 1913 I prayed at Isha Salat to be shown the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) and the Promised Messiah) in dream. I saw many holy persons gathered in a field and they are all engaged in prayer. Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II is among them. There are jasmine flowers in front of us and we are enjoying their fragrance. He says to me when smelling the fragrance of flowers one should hold them at a distance from one’s nose so as to smell them in an elegant way.

In another dream of 1913 I saw houses which are submerged in sea and in unawareness have reached near destruction. This dream was fulfilled with the rejection of the deniers of Khilafat.

In 1930 I saw a dream in which I am climbing a stairwell and Hadhrat Ummul Momineen (may Allah be pleased with her) is coming behind me. Seeing my panic she assures me that I am like her children. I take another stairwell and go into another house which is also the Promised Messiah’s (on whom be peace) house. There, I find employment to work for the family of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) and my pay is a lot less than the pay of my job of sub-inspector. But I accept the job and someone asks me why have I left my previous job and I answer someone deceived me at work. He then asks me why have I arrived late and I tell him that I had some guests at home who were not well and I was taking care of them. Hadhrat Ummul Momineen says that looking after ill people does take time. I then see that some people have entered the house of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) and want to create trouble. I have a sword in my hand and I make them retreat. Just then another man comes brandishing a sword. I cut off his sword with my sword. Some other men surround Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II, who calls me and I disperse those men and I try to kill the person who is instigating trouble and I succeed in doing so. Hadhrat Ummul Momineen and Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II give me milk to drink, someone asks why I am drinking milk and I reply that drinking milk is good for you.

I wrote a letter relating this dream to Hudhur and received a reply from Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih’s office saying that this was a good dream and that God would enable me to serve the Jama’at in some way. A few months later, I wrote another letter to Hudhur in which I stated that the evil of the Mistri controversy and the reprehensible proceeding of the police are overwhelming for me. I referred Hudhur to my earlier letter and his reply stating that I would be enabled to serve Jama’at. I said I was most anxious to be able to serve but had no idea how this would come to pass and asked for prayers that God soon gave me chance to be of service. It was seven years later that my dream was fulfilled in every sense. In 1924 I left my employment on the suggestion of a high ranking officer who told me that he too was leaving the employment but did not do so and stayed at the job. My pay at the employment was far more than what I currently get from Jama’at just as I had seen in the dream. I am working for Tehrik e Jadid which is a scheme specific to Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hadhrat Khair Din sahib (may Allah be pleased with him): His Bai’at year is 1906. He relates a dream:

I saw that Hadhrat Musleh Maud’s (may Allah be pleased with him) right hand has grown enormously and is about 55 feet long. This signifies that God has bestowed him with extraordinary power which no one will be able to match. l saw that in this condition he sits on a low wall and is weeping. I ask him why does he weep to which he replies ‘lest people start idolising me.’

I also saw a dream in which Hadhrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) is giving people letters in accordance with their heavenly station. I ask him if I too have a place in heaven to which he replies yes. I inferred from all this that whatever I saw was by virtue of the radiance of the light of Prophethood.

In another dream I saw that on one side of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II is a man named Yusuf and on the other side is a man named Sher Muhammad. God informed me that some people envied the progress of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) but God’s extraordinary help was with him, so no one could harm him.

I saw a dream at the time of the agitation by the Mistris that Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) is strolling in heavens, signifying that his station is so high it is not possible to reach him and no one can harm him.

Hadhrat Khalifa Nur Din sahib (may Allah be pleased with him): He took his Bai’at in 1891. He relates:

In 1941 I saw a child in a vision. Everyone is being very affectionate to him. I too take him in my arms and am loving towards him. Although the child is only small people say he is 43 years old. I was inspired and realised that Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) was 43 years old in 41 and in an Urdu poetic verse of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) which speaks of the prophecy of a son, the word aik (one) is used. The word aik denotes the number 41 according to an arrangement of Arabic alphabet where each alphabet is assigned numerical value. Spiritual excellence too starts after the age of 40, this is why the child was shown as 43 year old in the vision.

Hadhrat Rehm Din sahib (may Allah be pleased with him), son of Jamal Din sahib: He took Bai’at in 1902. He relates:

I experienced a vision during the second Khilafat e Ahmadiyya. I saw Maulwi Muhammad Ali and Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) together. Meanwhile, Maulwi Muhammad Ali’s body starts to contract, so much so that it is the size of a child’s body whereas the body of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II starts to grow so much so that it becomes larger than life size and exuded prestige and majesty. In the morning all my doubts were removed and I took his Bai’at.

Hadhrat Hakim Atta Muhammad sahib (may Allah be pleased with him): He relates:

A month after taking Bai’at of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) someone took me to discuss Prophethood with Maulwi Muhammad Ali. It was a friendly discussion which lasted about twenty minutes. That night I prayed to God that whatever Maulwi Muhammad Ali had said made sense to me and prayed that God may take care of my heart. I saw a dream that night in which the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) comes swiftly towards me and is anxious and asks me to look. I look that a pigeon flyer is angrily looking at a pigeon that has gone and sat on the umbrella of another pigeon flyer. The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) explains that pigeon flyers have contempt for those pigeons who sit on the umbrella of other pigeon flyers. Therefore, you too should not go to the Paigham Building [location where those ‘Ahmadis’ who denied Khilafat e Ahmadiyya convened]. I said I would not. I woke up and thanked God for His grace.

Hadhrat Dr Abdul Ghani sahib (may Allah be pleased with him): He took Bai’at in 1907, he relates:

The Ahmadis of Nairobi took Bai’at of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) but I and a few others kept ourselves deprived of it. Later, I went to India and the War broke out, so I stayed and took up employment there. I used to frequent the Paigham Building to offer Salat and to discuss matters. Someone there said that all the intellectuals were on our side. I used to go a shop owned by a Haji Musa sahib and there often had heated discussions with Munshi Mehboob Alam sahib. One day he asked me why did I go to Paigham Building and I told him to listen to Dars. He asked me to join him to a Dars that day and I went along. Maulana Rajiki used to give Dars in those days. That day he gave Dars on the second part of the Holy Qur’an in a most reasoned and fluent manner that I had never listened to before. He had appeared a simpleton but I was amazed that his words were replete with spiritual knowledge. When I praised him I was told that he was indeed the person who had taught the knowledge of the Qur’an to Maulwi Muhammad Ali. I was in a state of wavering in those days and saw a dream.

In the dream I am in a mosque and want to do Wadhu but there is no water available there. I go off looking for water and find myself in a mosque which looks like the Paigham Building where I find water. I open the tap and at first clean water comes out but then it turns dirty and has algae in it and then the water stops. I decide to return to the first mosque and as I climb a wall to do so someone grabs my leg and asks me why had I gone to that mosque and that I should not return and I reply that I have no need to return. I then go back to the first mosque and find a trough of clean water there and Maulana Rajiki is giving Dars of Hadith. I think with so much water available here, how I could have overlooked it before. I note that someone is standing with a sword next to me and I imagine that Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II has sent him to kill me because I am a hypocrite. I say to them that I am a Momim (true believer). The scene changes and I see myself holding a sword and it appears to be Muharram time and some young boys are flagellating. I make them run away. It then appears that police has come to search my son’s house and I imagine that they have come looking for my sword for which I do not have a licence but then I think that I had brought the sword from Africa. I then woke up. Afterwards I took Bai’at of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hadhrat Dr Nehmat Khan sahib (may Allah be pleased with him): He took his Bai’at in 1896. He relates:

After he was elected as Khalifatul Masih I wrote my letter of Bai’at to Hadhrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him). However, an acquaintance wrote to me at the time to revoke the Bai’at. I was on very good terms with this person so I did as he said.

Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih explained that the person, Maulwi Ghulam Hussein Peshawari was the father-in-law of Hadhrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad sahib who did not take Bai’at of Hadhrat Musleh Maud in the early years but did so later, in 1940.

I joined the Paighami group but it is God’s grace that I did not change my outlook about the family of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) and I did not ever use inappropriate language about them. I stayed with this group for a long period. In 1930 I saw a dream that there is a Hawaili (mansion) next to sea and waves crash nosily on its walls. Maulwi Muhammad Ali emerges from the Hawaili. Half of his face is white and the other half is black. I imagine that his condition at the time of the Promised Messiah was good but became darkened later on. In 1932 while my family was away I received a letter from a relative asking me to quickly go to Qadian because he had to go to USA and wanted to give the responsibility building his house to me. I went to Qadian and had the house built. My family also joined me. The atmosphere of Qadian was quite something else. It had such an impact on me that gradually all my doubts were removed and I filled Bai’at form and it felt as if God had granted me life once again while my erstwhile associates are still stuck. Their hearts know the truth but fear of humiliation stops them. Two years ago I saw a dream that a golden ornate chest comes down from the sky and is suspended in the air. A golden embellished crown also comes down from the sky and is about to land on the chest that I leap forward to hold it. As soon as I hold it a sound comes from all over the world ‘triumph of Islam’ and there is such a noise that I woke up. It was put in my heart that this was a British crown.

Hadhrat Mian Sonay Khan sahib (may Allah be pleased with him): He relates:

At the time of the height of the commotion by the Ahrars I started praying and invoking Durud profusely. I was shown the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) in a dream. I saw three camels and each is carrying the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) and Hadhrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) while the rest of the Companions are on other camels. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) tells me to go forward and walk very slowly so as to daunt the enemy. He then tells me to go backwards as my steps are making too much noise. He then dismounts and goes towards Masjid Mubarak [Qadian] and all the Companions follow him. He then leaves the Companions in the mosque and passes through the window/entrance in the mosque and goes to the house of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased be with him).

At the time of the height of Ahrar commotion the allegations from Mistris were also made I prayed most heart-wrenchingly and saw a dream. A man says that Maulwis have come and they are saying that they will completely uproot Ahmadiyyat. I take a few Ahmadis and go towards them. When we reach the destination it is Asr time, so I lead them in Prayer. A few other Ahmadis also join us. I look skywards and see two moons. One is shining brightly but the other is dull. Just then the second moon also acquires light and becomes as brilliant as the other one. A sound comes saying that the first moon is the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) and the other one is Hadhrat Mirza Bashir ud Din Mahmood Ahmad, Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him).

Next Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih explained briefly about the dreadful episode of Mistri allegations. Hadhrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: ‘Recently a court case was filed against me that I have appointed men to have some people killed. These people are associated with Machine Sawyan shop and the court case was filed by them. The other court case was that in future my guarantee should not be taken.’ He said: ‘Murder is a huge matter, I have never even prayed against them. However, these people made these assumptions about themselves. Recently, due to some reasons which were devised in imagery manner they felt that I am making attempts against them. Due to some reasons which were published in the papers, these people took all kinds of unwarrantable actions.’ He also said: ‘People who become morally bankrupt turn hell-bent to avenge their rancour through immoral ways. This is why they started these matters which are about allegations and accusations.’

A summary of what Tareekh e Ahmadiyyat (History of Ahmadiyyat) cites about the Mistri agitation: Due to the successes of Ahmadiyya Jama’at and rising popularity of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) in every strata of society, those who could not abide by the greatness of the Community and his popularity started his intense opposition. For this purpose some Mistris (skilled workers) of Qadian who ran the Machine Sawyan shop were used as means. Apart from filing a case for murder against Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) they took out a newspaper entitled ‘Mubahila’ and made vile and disgraceful attacks on his sacred person. With their abusive and inflammatory ways, they created uproar against the Jama’at. This commotion was in fact the result of a deep conspiracy behind which anti-Ahmadiyya elements were working. In order to discredit Ahmadiyyat, in fact to crush it, they tried every kind of contemptible trick. While this matter unmasked the filthy and defeatist mentality of the detractors of Ahmadiyyat, it demonstrated [Hadhrat] Yusuf-like glory of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him). He presented such a peerless model of patience and openly showed their loathing and tedium towards the mudslingers.

At the Jalsa Salana of 1927 Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) said: ‘It is the way of God that such matters are experienced by Divine communities. They should not cause anxiety. Our obligation is to do to our task, it is not our task to be troubled by the mischief of the enemy. God Himself will grant triumph to whatever is His. Allah the Exalted looks after His matters Himself. If the Ahmadiyya Community was manmade, how could it have lasted this much? This is God’s community. He alone has looked after it earlier and He alone will do it in future. God has informed me that age of glory and security, privilege and advancement will soon come. Someone has said that he will see to it that the Jama’at does not progress. But I too will see if the word of my God is fulfilled or this person’s!’

Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih said that indeed the whole matter died miserably with those involved turning against each other. Even today when they scheme against us and if governmental help is involved, they turn against the government. May God keep the Jama’at safe from all kinds of agitations and continue to show us progress. May God elevate the status of all the companions who have been cited today and may their families be recipients of their prayers and may they walk in their footsteps. May all members of Jama’at be safe from every kind of evil and may God enable everyone to maintain a strong connection with Khilafat e Ahmadiyya.

Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih announced that he would lead funeral Prayer in absentia of Sardar Muhammad Bharwana sahib who passed away at the age of 73.
