Your smartphone alerts you to every notification, yet somehow, you’ve missed the call to Salat. We upgrade our devices annually but neglect the software updates. This is spiritual entropy in action, a law as real as gravity, silently degrading our connection to the Divine. Just as buildings crumble without maintenance and gardens become overgrown without care, our hearts harden and our spiritual hearing dims when we abandon the very aids Allah has provided: prayer, the Holy Quran, and obedience to the Prophet(sa). The question isn’t whether spiritual decay will occur, but whether we’ll act before entropy becomes irreversible dementia.
Modern technology has made us seekers of instant gratification, accelerating the entropy of our spiritual functions. We must counter the natural decay that threatens our souls.

From Entropy to Dementia
Spiritual entropy represents the gradual degradation and disorder of the soul when left unmaintained. Like a building that deteriorates without upkeep, our hearts become disorganized when we neglect our spiritual practices. This is a reversible state, one that responds to proactive intervention through istighfar (seeking forgiveness), taubah (repentance), prayers, and obedience to the Prophet(sa).
Spiritual dementia, however, represents a hardened and resistant condition characterized by illogical arguments against faith. When we persistently abandon our spiritual hearing aids, entropy degenerates into this more severe state, a calcified spiritual deafness that may prove irreversible. The distinction is crucial: entropy implies disorder that can be reordered; dementia suggests cognitive deterioration that resists remedy.
The Tongue’s Imprisonment
Hazrat Abdullah ibn Mas’ud(ra) narrates that The Prophet(sa) said :
“By Allah, besides whom there is no God, nothing on earth is in greater need of a lengthy prison sentence than the tongue”.
Our words possess the power to deafen us spiritually, severing the connection we desperately need. As one saying warns: “Listen or your tongue will keep you deaf”
Dynamic Stability Through Obedience
The Promised Messiah(as) taught that istighfar strengthens the soul and develops perseverance of heart, just as physical exercise builds bodily strength. He explained: “The word ‘ghafrun’ means to cover or suppress, and so, through istighfar a person seeks to cover and suppress those emotions and thoughts that stand between them and God”.
True spiritual stability requires dynamic engagement. The Promised Messiah(as) emphasized that following the Holy Quran demands “reaching the heights of love and loyalty, in other words being completely devoted to implementing the teachings of the Holy Quran”. This devotion manifests in acceptance of prayers, purification from sin, and converse with God.
The Divine Prescription
Allah commands:
“Yaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanut taqullaha wa koonoo ma’as saadiqeen“ (9:119), O you who believe, fear Allah and be with the truthful.
This companionship with the righteous maintains our spiritual frequency.
The Holy Quran reminds us of our mortality:
“Kullu man ‘alayha faan, wa yabqa wajhu Rabbika dhul jalali wal ikraam” (55:26-27). All that is on earth will perish, except the Face of your Lord, the Possessor of Glory and Honour. Everything requires sustaining force to exist; our souls are no exception.
The ultimate prescription remains Allah’s promise:
“Qul in kuntum tuhibbunallaha fattabi’ooni yuhbibkumullahu wa yaghfir lakum dhunoobakum, Wallahu Ghafoorur Raheem” (3:32).Say, if you love Allah, follow me; then will Allah love you and forgive you your faults, and Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.
Through istighfar, taubah, prayers, and steadfast obedience to the Prophet(sa), we maintain our spiritual hearing and achieve dynamic stability in a world designed to distract and decay.
Don’t wait until your spiritual hearing is lost entirely. Start today with one act of istighfar, one moment of genuine taubah, one prayer offered with presence rather than routine. Reclaim your spiritual hearing aids before the static of this world drowns out the Divine voice completely. If you cherish your faith and fear spiritual dementia, commit now to daily engagement with the Quran, consistent prayer, and renewed obedience to the Prophet(sa). Your soul’s vitality depends on it. Unlike physical hearing loss, this decline remains within your power to reverse. Act before entropy hardens into dementia. Begin your restoration now.
