Spotting a problem and solving it is both an act and an attitude. Most people do one of two things when they see a problem. They report it and leave the worry to someone else. Or they report it and then wait for instructions. Neither approach serves a community well.
Our Jama’at has defined roles and duties, and they matter. But we can act on what we see without disrupting the organization. Holding a concern until the next meeting, or sending an email and waiting for a reply, adds delay. Often a need cannot wait.
Take a member who needs a ride to the mosque or to the hospital. Do not wait to report it to the president. If you see the need and you can help, take the person. Find a way. We see this in our mosques and gatherings. Shoes are left scattered. Chairs remain disordered. Cups are left behind. We walk around them. We wait for someone else.“You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.”
As Ahmadis we are people of excellence. People of excellence go the extra mile to do what is right.
The Holy Prophe (sa) said:
“Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2442)
He did not tell us to wait for permission first.
The Promised Messiah(as) held the same standard of immediate care. The Promised Messiah(as) said that serving humanity is itself a form of worship. He also described his own state: if someone were in distress while he was in obligatory prayer, he would wish to break the prayer and help that person. ( Malfuzat Vol 6 Urdu page 263) If that was his urgency, a ride to the mosque or hospital should not wait for a meeting.
Acting on a problem is not defiance of structure. It is ownership. Whoever sees the need first is the person best placed to meet it. Once the need is met, a short note to the responsible officer keeps everyone informed.
When members act on what they see: Needs are met sooner. Officers are freed to focus on larger responsibilities. Members feel cared for and valued. The community works as one body, not as a chain of reports.
Efficiency and goodwill grow together. Let us make this our habit: see the need, then meet it.
Excellence demands constant maintenance and vigilance. In the age of AI, they are not optional. Those who ignore them will be left behind.
