“And We have sent the fertilizing winds, then We sent down water from the sky and gave it to you to drink; and you are not the keepers of its stores.” Wa arsalnā r-riyāḥa lawāqiḥa fa-anzalnā mina s-samā’i mā’an fa-asqaynākumūhu wa mā antum lahu bi-khāzinīn ( Al Hijr15:23)  

This verse draws our attention to a simple but profound reality. Even though there is water stored beneath the earth, human life still depends on fresh rain. We do not possess the power to control, collect, or preserve water entirely according to our will. Our dependence on this divinely regulated system in the physical world points to a deeper truth in the spiritual realm. Just as rain revives dead land, revelation revives dead hearts.   

In spiritual life, revelation is like rain. Human beings stand in constant need of living guidance from God. Mere access to books, records of past guidance, or accounts of earlier prophets does not suffice. As history moves forward, new circumstances and challenges arise, and with them comes the need for renewed elucidation and application of divine wisdom. The Holy Qur’an is the final and perfect Book, yet its guidance is living and ever-relevant, manifested for every age through those whom God appoints to explain, embody, and apply it.   

In this age, the advent of the Promised Messiah^(as), is in full harmony with this divine law. His coming is like blessed rain at a time of spiritual drought. Following him, the institution of Khilafat continues that life-giving flow of guidance. Under Khilafat, the teachings of the Qur’an are constantly brought to life for contemporary needs, providing direction, unity, and spiritual nourishment to the Jama‘at. This is why the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community continues to progress, despite opposition, under the protective shade of Khilafat.   

Today, Khilafat stands as the most tangible and living manifestation of God’s love and mercy for humankind. Through it, the truth of the divine statement *mina s-samā’i mā’an fa-asqaynākumūhu wa mā antum lahu bikhāzinīn* is fulfilled in a spiritual sense. God sends down the water of guidance from heaven and grants it to the believers to drink, while reminding them that they are not its keepers. Its true Guardian is He alone, who safeguards, renews, and distributes this spiritual water through His chosen servants.   

The verse further admonishes Muslims not to become satisfied merely because the Holy Qur’an is present among them. Heavenly water descends pure from above. When people mix their own assumptions and corrupt notions with the meanings of the Divine word, its life-giving message may become obscured. Yet Allah has the power to create means through which the pure meanings of the Qur’an are again conveyed to the world.

The next verse declares:

And surely We alone give life and cause death, and We alone are the inheritors. (Al Hijr 15:24) Wa innā la-naḥnu nuḥyī wa numītu wa naḥnu l-wārithūn

Allah alone grants life and causes death, and when all created beings pass away, He alone remains the true Inheritor of all things.
