'Never shall you attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love; and whatever you spend, Allah surely knows it well.' (3:93)
Every believer wishes to attain Divine nearness by doing good and God draws the attention of believers in the aforementioned verse that if you wish to do good to seek God's pleasure then remember doing good requires sacrifice. Sacrifice of that which one loves, which benefits one, which brings one comfort, which in one's eyes is a source to better the future of one's children. Man has always loved wealth and God has stated that gold, silver, property, crops, orchards are dear to man and he feels pride over them.
In this day and age when technology has not only brought the world together but along with the prevalent financial system technology has facilitated to heighten personal wishes whether or not an individual has copious means. These wishes have reached fever-pitch; to have access to every luxury item wherever in the world it is available; this is particularly so in the developed world. If God forbid the situation in the developed world was to deteriorate or they faced war, the people here would be in an unthinkable state. This is an incidental remark.
People living in deprived and under-developed or developing world are also aware of these facilities and leaving aside the very under-privileged, the preferences of at least the middle income people are to get hold of the latest merchandise. Materialism is at its very height. In such milieu sacrificing your wishes and comforts is a strange phenomenon for a normal worldly person who would consider it an out-dated view. Or he would consider helping the needy, giving to charity but would then deem it preposterous to spend what is most dear to one by crushing one's own wishes for another or for faith.
The world does not know that even in this day and age there are people who aspire to Al Bir (righteousness) and who are restless to be of benefit to others. They try to do good which establishes high standards of sacrifice of life and property in order to spread religion and spread good which enhances them in obedience and they do not see what is most dear to them, they only see that they are obedient to God. A large part of the world does not know who these people are. Indeed, these are the people who have joined the true and ardent devotee of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) and in joining him they have gained the insight into attaining what piety truly means. To attain piety they have tried to seek light and guidance from those luminous columns of light who sought direct beneficence of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him).
When the verse 'Never shall you attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love…' was revealed, a Companion Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) who was a wealthy inhabitant of Medina and was the owner of many date orchards offered to give his finest orchard which he liked a lot and which was close to the Prophet's Mosque and was visited by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him). He submitted to the Holy Prophet that the orchard was his finest piece of property which he gave in the way of God. Such luminous stars were the Companions and the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) have cited their example numerous times and has unfolded the teachings of the Holy Qur'an to impart insight into attaining piety and to impart levels of sacrifice. He said it was essential to follow the example of the Companions.
The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said: 'No one can claim to do good by spending what is useless and gimmicky. The doorway to piety is narrow therefore be heedful that no one can enter through it by spending what is useless because the signification is: 'Never shall you attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love…' Unless you spend what you hold dearest and most cherished, you cannot attain the rank of being a beloved and a dear. How can you be successful if you do not want to endure pain and do not want to adopt true piety? Did the Companions attain their status for free? Much expense and difficulties are endured to achieve worldly titles, resulting in having an ordinary title which cannot give peace and tranquillity of mind. Think then, would the title of رضی اللہ عنہم 'may Allah be pleased with them' which brings inner peace and tranquillity and is a sign of pleasure of Noble Lord would have been achieved just like that? Fact is that pleasure of God Almighty, which is the source of true happiness, cannot be attained unless temporary pain is endured. God cannot be conned. Blessed are those who do not care about pain to attain Divine pleasure because believer finds the light of eternal happiness and comfort after temporary pain.' (Report Jalsa Salana 1897, p. 79)
The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) also said: 'Man has great love for wealth. This is why interpretations of dream state that if anyone sees that he takes his liver out and gives it to someone, it means wealth/property. This is the reason it is stated regarding attaining true devotion to God and attaining faith: 'Never shall you attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love…' This is because a large part of sympathy and compassion for creation of God necessitates spending of wealth because compassion for mankind and for creation of God is an important element of faith without which faith cannot be complete and cannot be instilled. Man cannot be of benefit to another unless he makes sacrifice. For sacrifice is necessary to be of benefit to another and to show them sympathy. The verse: 'Never shall you attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love…' teaches and guides to such sacrifice. Thus, spending of wealth in the way of Allah the Exalted is a standard and a benchmark of man's goodness and righteousness. The standard and benchmark of devotion to God in the life of Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) mentioned one requirement, he brought all that was in his home to give.' (Al Hakm, Vol. 4/30, p. 4, dated 24 August 1900)
The community that the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) created did not just listen to these words and then diverted their attention. Rather, they established standards of sacrifice. The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) spoke with reference to this many times. He once said:
'I see hundreds in our Jama'at who can scarcely afford to clothe themselves and can scarcely afford to have one outfit. They do not have any property but their boundless sincerity, devotion, love and loyalty causes amazement and astonishment.'
He also said: 'The progress and change found in our Jama'at cannot be found anywhere else.'
Did this sincerity diminish with time? Most certainly it did not. There are men, women and children in the Jama'at of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) today who excel in sincerity. And this is not the case in a few places or some specific places. Rather, Ahmadis who have a real insight into 'Never shall you attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love…' are spread all over the world. Among them are both long-term and new Ahmadis, even some who joined a few months ago, whose preferences were worldly but they are now ready to sacrifice what they hold dear for the sake of faith. This revolutionary change has been brought in this age by the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) whose words are being proven true today and in amazing fulfilment. Below are some examples of this.
Our missionary from Sierra Leone writes that a blind lady had promised Leone 2000 for Tehrik e Jadid. She was worried that owing to her disability her income was not much and fulfilling the promised amount was difficult but she had made the pledge and wanted to pay. She thought to take a loan for the purpose from a non-Ahmadi sister, but she refused because she felt the lady would not be able to pay back. When they went to collect Chanda from her, the lady asked if they could come another time. She became engaged in prayer. One day as she sat outside her home she saw an unfamiliar man pass by. She called him over and said that she had a cloth which she used as head covering and asked him to buy it off her for Leone 2000. The value of the cloth was Leone 10,000 to 15,000, so the man asked why she was selling it so inexpensively. She told him that she needed to pay that amount for Tehrik e Jadid. The man purchased the cloth but then returned it to her.
Missionary-in-charge in Rajasthan India went on a tour. He met an ailing 65 year old Ahmadi who does not have any regular source of income and only works 100 days a year as a governmental labourer. His wife goes out to work to support the family. When he was asked for financial sacrifice he pledged Rupee 1050. Owing to his financial situation he was asked why he was pledging so much and it was suggested to him to keep some of it. Hearing this he wept and said he had saved the money for the sake of God and asked for prayers to be in good health so that he can give more.
Ameer Sahib of Benin writes that when a long-term Ahmadi was reminded of his Tehrik e Jadid contribution he came to the mission house and said he had not eaten for one week and wept all night because he did not have money to give. He paid a small amount of contribution and was in turn given some money as help. He returned CFA Franc 10,000 of money given to him saying he owed that much in his overdue Chanda Aam.
In India significance of Tehrik e Jadid was mentioned in a Friday sermon as was acting on the call of words of Hazrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) in this regard. Following this the local Sadr Lajna gave her weighty gold bangles for Tehrik e Jadid.
The national secretary for Tehrik e Jadid in Germany writes that after attending a seminar on Tehrik e Jadid an Ahmadi brought his wife's jewellery to donate. He said as they went home from the seminar he told his wife that he had made his pledge and asked her what she had pledged. His wife replied that in accordance with 'Never shall you attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love…' she was going to give her jewellery and she gave her wedding jewellery.
Ameer Sahib of Lahore writes that a lady had pledged well for Tehrik e Jadid but when additional contribution was requested she produced a jewellery box saying all its contents were to be given in God's way. She took out a weighty gold bangle and gave it for Tehrik e Jadid.
Our missionary writes that a man said to our mual'lim (teacher/tutor) in a region of Mali that he had heard Hazrat Khalifatul Masih's sermon on the radio and was there to pay Chanda. Our mual'lim quoted 'Never shall you attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love…' to him and the person was amazed and said indeed he had heard the same verse in the Friday sermon on the radio. He said he had initially thought of giving CFA Franc 5000 but Satan led his astray and he was going to only give 2000. However, after listening to the same verse he was convinced that this was a Divine system and he gave CFA 5000.
A person from Congo said that he is a farmer and grows produce. Previously he gave little in way of donation but since he started giving more his crops yield much more and the significance of giving is clear to him. He says this has transformed his life.
A lady from Congo says that she is also in farming and has now started paying Chanda at every harvest. She has experienced that paying Chanda doubles her income.
Our missionary from Congo writes that an Ahmadi pledged Franc 2000 for Tehrik e Jadid although he was not employed at the time of pledging. A week later he found a job and now works as a manager in his field and pays Chanda regularly and says all this is due to the blessing of Chanda.
Niab Wakeelul Maal Qadian writes that an Ahmadi from Kerala Jama'at said on telephone that when Hazrat Khalifatul Masih announced the new year of Tehrik e Jadid he mentioned how generously the under-privileged people of Africa gave. He said since he could afford he would increase his pledge from Rupee 200,000 to Rupee 500,000. He became emotional as he pledged and also wrote to Huzoor for prayers that he may be able to fulfil his pledge. Sometime later when Naib Wakeelul Maal Sahib met him, he told him that he had paid his contribution and his work had increased so much that he finds it difficult to manage.
Inspector Tehrik e Jadid Karnataka writes that in response to words of Hazrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him), a Khadim of Gulberga Jama'at pledged one month's salary circa Rupee 73,000. However, when it was time to pay he gave an extraordinarily greater amount of Rupee 100, 511. This resulted in God showing a miracle to him. A person who had owed him a large sum of money and who had in spite of persistent reminders not paid, so much so that the Khadim had lost hope of being paid back, turned up and most apologetically returned the entire amount.
An Uzbek new Ahmadi says that he has been living in Moscow for a very long time and has always had an idea what his income would be. However, since he did bai'at and started paying Chanda his income has increased so exponentially that he had not earned in the last thirteen years what he has earned this year. He has perfect belief that this is due to the blessings of spending in the way of God.
An Ahmadi mentioned to our mual'lim in a village in Burkina Faso that he wished to perform Haj but he did not have the resources. He was advised to pay Chanda regularly and God would Himself provide means to go to Haj. He person started making regular contributions. A short while ago he reported that God had fulfilled his wish to perform Haj. Not only is he now regular in paying Chanda, he has also performed Haj.
A Sadr from Burkina Faso said that a person was experiencing financial hardship and due to this he could not start a project that he wanted to do. He happened to attend Jalsa Salana Burkina Faso where he heard about the merits of financial giving. He decided to start contributing once he went back home. Immediately on his return he first paid all his Chanda arrears and promised to be regular and on time in future. A month had passed that all his troubles started to resolve and with the grace of God he was able to finish his project. All this was owing to the blessing of Chanda.
Ameer Sahib of Canada writes that a few years ago an Ahmadi suffered a loss of some $250,000 in business. He was advised to be regular in his obligatory Chanda as this would bless his earnings. He started paying obligatory Chanda. After a while he read saying of Hazrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) that Tehrik e Jadid contribution should be paid in the beginning of the year. For the past three years he has been paying Tehrik e Jadid in the beginning of the year. With the grace of God he has paid all his debt and his financial situation has started to improve.
Ameer Sahib of Canada writes that an Ahmadi started his own business and pledged $1000 for Tehrik e Jadid. He was advised that he should pledged at least $5000 the next year and was also advised to write to Hazrat Khalifatul Masih for prayers. When it was time for him to pay at the end of the year he said his business had done very well and he wished to pay $5000 for the first year and would try to increase it in future.
Ameer Sahib USA writes that an Ahmadi said during 1974 and 1984 [troubles] their business was set on fire in Pakistan but each time they suffered loss, with His special grace, God blessed their means manifold. [Now in USA] this year he has pledged $100,000 and has said that his business has expanded to an extent that was once beyond their imagination.
An Ahmadi from Chicago contributed with a cheque for $38,415.00. When asked why the specific amount, he said he was giving whatever was in his bank.
An Ahmadi from an Arab country took bai'at in 2009 while his wife took bai'at last year. The finance secretary has related that the husband and wife would talk amongst themselves that Ahmadiyya Jama'at spends in the way of God in the best manner therefore one should spend in the way of God through the Jama'at. With the grace of God this year the couple has contributed almost £14,000 for Tehrik e Jadid which is the largest donation in their area.
Ameer of London writes that when Worcester Park Jama'at appealed for more contributions to meet their target one family gave whatever they had saved for their holiday and spent the holiday period at home.
Our missionary from Uganda writes that an Ahmadi was reminded of Tehrik e Jadid contribution. At the time he only had a rooster and he gave the price of the rooster for Tehrik e Jadid. He said he also had his children's school fee to pay but he wanted to pay for Tehrik e Jadid first.
National Tehrik e Jadid secretary from USA writes that an eleven year old had saved up to buy a video game. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih remarked that at this age boys are very interested in video games and cannot see beyond them. However, when the young boy was asked about Tehrik e Jadid he gave $100.00 that he had saved up for the game and thus fulfilled the pledge of giving precedence to faith over worldly matters.
Our missionary in Uganda writes that a Tifl learnt Salat and now leads Salat and Friday Prayers in his Jama'at. As an encouragement Ameer Sahib gave him a gift which he donated to Tehrik e Jadid. Later the tifl went somewhere for a funeral. While he was there it was Salat time, so he gave most melodious adhan. A person was so pleased to hear his adhan that he gave him some money as gift. The boy also gave that to Tehrik e Jadid. Seeing him other atfal are also enthused pay Tehrik e Jadid and some of them have said that they will take up digging jobs to pay their contributions. This year six atfal of the Jama'at gave more than they had pledged.
May God continue to enhance this spirit and may everyone also enhance in righteousness.
Next, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih announced the start of new year for Tehrik e Jadid and gave a report on last year.
With the grace of God this is the start of 82nd year of Tehrik e Jadid. According to reports received thus far the total contributions for last year stand at £ 9,217,800.00. This is an increase of £147,000.00 from the year before.

(Never shall you attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love; and whatever you spend, Allah surely knows it well.)
Every believer has this desire that he should attain the closeness of Allah the Almighty by doing good deeds. In this verse, Allah the Almighty has drawn the attention of believers that if you desire to do good deeds so that you may attain the pleasure of Allah the Almighty, then remember that righteousness requires sacrifice. Therefore, make sacrifices to attain the pleasure of God Almighty. Sacrifice that thing which is most dear to you. Sacrifice that thing from which you are benefiting, from which you are gaining profit. Sacrifice that thing which is providing you comfort and ease. Sacrifice that thing which apparently is also a means of securing the future of your generations in your view. So all these types of sacrifices are not ordinary sacrifices. Wealth has always been dear to man. Allah the Almighty has also mentioned this, that gold, silver, animals, property, fields, gardens - all these are very dear to man and are a source of pride for man. He takes pride in them. But in today's materialistic age, when new technology has not only brought people living in different countries of the world very close together, but this technology and economic system has also greatly increased desires. Regardless of whether someone has abundant wealth or not, the blaze of desires and love for money and efforts for its acquisition have reached their peak so that all those facilities may be utilized and access to all luxurious things which are available in any country of the world may be obtained. Especially in developed countries, this has reached its extreme. If God forbid the conditions of these countries deteriorate or there is a war situation, then the condition of those living here will be beyond imagination. Anyway, this was a side point, but in every class, love for wealth and new desires in the name of necessities of life have reached their peak, and because of media and expansion of trade, even those living in poor or less developed or developing countries are aware of those facilities which exist in developed countries, and in these countries too, if not the very poor, then at least the desires and priorities of average citizens have turned towards acquiring newer and newer things. Anyway, materialism is at its peak. In such circumstances, it is a strange thing for the common worldly person to say that for attaining righteousness, spend those things which you love. Sacrifice your desires, sacrifice your comforts. A worldly person would only say that these are outdated talks of old times or would say that it's fine, spend on the poor. Help them a little. Give something to charity. But to say that you spend that thing which is most beloved to you, crush your desires and sacrifice for the desires of others or sacrifice for religion - this is a strange and ridiculous thing.
But the world does not know that even in this age there are such people who have the understanding of this teaching of the Holy Quran. They try to act upon it. Even in this age there are such people who try to attain اَلْبِرّ, that is, they try for such righteousness which is the extreme of sacrifice for others. They try for that righteousness which keeps them restless at all times to benefit others. They try for that righteousness which establishes standards of sacrificing one's wealth, life and time for spreading religion. They try for that righteousness which increases obedience and for acting upon this obedience, they do not consider what thing is dear to me. At that time the only dearest thing is obedience to the command of Allah the Almighty. They try for that righteousness which increases taqwa (righteousness). A large part of the world does not know who these people are. These are those people who, by connecting with the true devotee of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the Imam of the age, have gained the understanding of attaining true righteousness. Those who have received guidance for the right paths from those bright minarets of righteousness to attain righteousness who received grace from the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Whose standards of sacrifices were also amazing.
It is mentioned in a hadith that when this verse was revealed, لَنْ تَنَالُوْا الْبِرَّحَتّٰی تُنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا تُحِبُّوْنَ Hazrat Abu Talha Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) who was a wealthy person among the Ansar of Medina, had date palm orchards, of which the most excellent orchard was one named Bairuha. Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) loved it very much and it was also very close to Masjid Nabawi. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also often went to this orchard. Anyway, upon the revelation of this verse, Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) presented himself in the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and submitted that my most beloved property is the orchard of Bairuha. I give it in the way of Allah the Almighty. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Tafsir, Bab Lan Tanaloo al-Birra Hatta Tunfiqoo Mimma Tuhiboon, Hadith number 4554)
So these are those people who were bright stars and were those who determined the paths of righteousness. Therefore, giving examples of these companions, the Imam of this age drew our attention repeatedly. His Holiness explained in detail the teachings and commandments of the Holy Quran in his numerous directions. He gave understanding and comprehension of attaining righteousness. He spoke about the standards of sacrifices. He exhorted to establish those examples which the companions of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had established. He said that it is necessary for the followers of the Promised Messiah to adopt these examples. Thus, at one place, the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) says:
"No person can claim to do good deeds by spending useless and worthless things. The door of righteousness is narrow. Therefore, keep this matter in mind that no one can enter it by spending worthless things. Because there is explicit text لَنْ تَنَالُوْا الْبِرَّحَتّٰی تُنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا تُحِبُّوْنَ (Aal-e-Imran: 93). Until you spend from your dearest and most beloved things, you cannot attain the status of being beloved and dear. If you do not want to endure hardship and do not want to adopt true righteousness, then how can you be successful and achieve your goals? Did the companions of the Holy Prophet attain the status they achieved for free? To obtain worldly titles, how many expenses and hardships have to be endured, then somewhere a minor title is obtained from which inner satisfaction and peace cannot be achieved. Then consider that the title of رَضِیَ اللّٰہُ عَنْہُمْ which gives consolation to the heart and satisfaction to the heart and is a sign of the pleasure of the Gracious Lord, was it obtained so easily? The fact is that the pleasure of Allah the Almighty, which is the cause of true happiness, cannot be attained unless temporary hardships are endured. God cannot be deceived. Blessed are those people who do not care about hardship for attaining the pleasure of God, because eternal happiness and the light of permanent comfort is received by the believer after this temporary hardship." (Malfoozat, Volume 1, pages 75-76, Edition 1985, published in England)
Then while advising the members of the community in a gathering, our master, the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) said:
"In the world, man loves wealth very much. That is why it is written in the science of interpretation of dreams that if a person sees (sees in a dream) that he has taken out his liver and given it to someone, then it means wealth. This is the reason that for attaining true taqwa and faith, it has been said لَنْ تَنَالُوْا الْبِرَّحَتّٰی تُنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا تُحِبُّوْنَ (Aal-e-Imran: 93). You will never attain true righteousness until you spend the dearest thing. Because a large part of sympathy and kindness with God's creation indicates the need to spend wealth, and sympathy for fellow humans and God's creation is such a thing which is the second component of faith without which faith is not complete and firm. Until a person does not show sacrifice, how can he benefit another? For benefiting and sympathizing with another, sacrifice is a necessary thing and in this verse لَنْ تَنَالُوْا الْبِرَّحَتّٰی تُنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا تُحِبُّوْنَ, the teaching and guidance of this sacrifice has been given. Therefore, spending wealth in the way of Allah the Almighty is also a standard and touchstone of man's good fortune and piety. In the life of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) the standard and touchstone of dedication for Allah was that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned a need, he came forward with all the household belongings." (Malfoozat, Volume 2, pages 95-96, Edition 1985, published in England)
The community that the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) established did not just listen to these things and turn their face away and divert their attention, but after listening to these things, they also established these standards of sacrifices. The Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) himself also mentioned this at several places, in several gatherings.
On one occasion, seeing the standard of sacrifice of the community, he said: "I see that hundreds of people have also joined our community who barely have clothes on their bodies. They barely have a sheet or trousers available to them. They have no property but from their limitless sincerity and devotion, love and faithfulness, a wonder and amazement is created in their temperament." (Malfoozat, Volume 10, page 306, Edition 1985, published in England)
Then on one occasion he said: "Whatever progress and transformation is found in our community, it does not exist in anyone else in the world at this time." (Malfoozat, Volume 10, page 243, Edition 1985, published in England)
So those who received grace directly from him attained this status and received the certificate of his pleasure. But did this sincerity and faithfulness end with the passage of time? Certainly not. As I said, even today there are such people in the community of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) among men, among women and among children who are advanced in sincerity and faithfulness. Not just a few and in a few specific places, but there are thousands of such examples scattered in different countries of the world who have the correct understanding of لَنْ تَنَالُوْا الْبِرَّحَتّٰی تُنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا تُحِبُّوْنَ. Who continue to advance in sacrifices. Among them are both old ones and those newly joined ones who accepted Ahmadiyyat a short time ago, rather there are also those whom it may have been only a few months. Whose priorities before accepting Ahmadiyyat were worldly desires, but after accepting Ahmadiyyat they became ready to sacrifice their beloved wealth or whatever they have for the sake of religion. This is the revolution that the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) brought about in this age. He has changed people's priorities. And even today the words of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) prove true about them that there are such people that seeing their sacrifices causes amazement. I present at this time some examples of the sacrifices of these sincere ones. As the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) said that they barely have clothes on their bodies but are advanced in sincerity and faithfulness, I give one example of this. This example is of a woman and that too of a woman who is blind.
Our missionary from Sierra Leone writes that here there is a community Kpangbaru where a blind woman lives who pledged two thousand Leones for Tehrik-e-Jadid donation. When they went to her to collect the donation, she said that I was worried about paying the donation first but being blind my source of income is not such that I can pay any donation. It is very difficult for me to give a two thousand Leones donation. But she said that anyway I have made a promise, I will pay it. To give the donation, she decided to borrow money from her non-Ahmadi sister. But the sister refused saying that you are blind, you don't have such resources either, I don't know if you will be able to return it to me or not. At this, the blind woman became very worried and told the Secretary Tahrik-e-Jadid or the person who had gone to collect the donation to wait a while and come back. So she became busy in prayer. During this time, a stranger came to the village and passed by her. She was sitting outside the house. So she called out to that man. She said to him that I have a head cloth at this time, you buy it for two thousand Leones. They say that although that cloth was worth ten to fifteen thousand Leones. That man asked in surprise why are you selling it so cheap? At this, the lady explained that I have to pay Tehrik-e-Jadid donation and I don't have money at this time. That stranger bought that cloth and gave two thousand Leones to the blind woman. He was a noble man and later he also returned the cloth and said keep this from my side. So this is the sincerity of an illiterate blind woman living in a remote area of Africa. Certainly this sincerity is created by Allah the Almighty.
Then I present some other incidents. The missionary in charge of Rajasthan India writes that here there is a community 'Bolabali'. When he went there on tour, there was a member whose age was around 65 years. He is often ill and has no income. He only gets government labor work for a hundred days a year. His wife works for household expenses. The condition of the house was also very dilapidated. When he was drawn attention towards financial sacrifice, that he should make a small sacrifice as a token because this is also obligatory for believers, he paid one thousand fifty rupees as donation. At this, the secretary was very surprised and asked him that the conditions of your house are not so good but despite this you are giving such a large amount. The secretary who had gone to collect (the donation) says that I told him that if you want to keep some from this amount, then keep it. At this, he started crying and said that I had collected this amount for the sake of Allah the Almighty and this is Allah the Almighty's money. Pray for me that Allah the Almighty gives me health so that I can present more than this in the presence of my Lord.
Then, listen to the incident of another sincere person advanced in sincerity and faithfulness. Certainly this is jolting for the wealthy.
Amir Sahib of Benin writes that he sent a list of people who had made promises to pay Tehrik-e-Jadid donation to the president of Cotonou community here, so the name of an old Ahmadi friend was written among the donors. When his attention was drawn, he came to the mission house the next day and said: Have you seen anyone who has not eaten for a week? He says the condition of poverty is such that I cried all night that I have to pay Tehrik-e-Jadid donation and I don't have money. Perhaps Allah the Almighty is testing me. After this, he paid a small amount in Tehrik-e-Jadid and said that at this time I have only this much. And perhaps he had borrowed that money from somewhere too. He did not use it to satisfy his hunger but gave a donation. At this, the person who had gone to collect said, I gave him some money as help. What donation are you giving? I am helping you. And when I gave him money as help, he immediately returned ten thousand francs CFA and said that my general donation is still outstanding. You deduct my outstanding donation from this amount. So this is the sincerity and faithfulness as the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) said that there are no clothes on the body but are advanced in sincerity.
Then the Naib Wakeel-ul-Maal from Qadian writes that in Jama'at Ahmadiyya Kodiyathoor (or whatever the word is), the importance of Tehrik-e-Jadid was explained in the Friday sermon and mention was made of some sacrifices of sincere ones who enthusiastically responded to the call of Hazrat Musleh Maud, may Allah be pleased with him. At this, the president of Lajna Imaillah of the community there went home after Friday and went and took off a heavy gold bangle and presented it in Tehrik-e-Jadid.
By the grace of Allah the Almighty, there are countless examples everywhere of women of the community presenting their jewelry for the sake of religious needs. This spirit of Ahmadi women living in different parts of the world, this common quality is that they sacrifice their favorite jewelry for the sake of religion and this is only the characteristic of Ahmadi women today.
The National Secretary Tehrik-e-Jadid of Germany writes that a seminar was held here in a community in Hanau regarding Tehrik-e-Jadid. As soon as the seminar ended, a friend came to the Tehrik-e-Jadid office with his wife's jewelry. He explained that after the seminar ended and we were going back home, I asked my wife: I have written my promise. Have you also written any promise? At this she said that I have presented sacrifice according to the teaching of the Holy Quran لَنْ تَنَالُوْا الْبِرَّحَتّٰی تُنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا تُحِبُّوْنَ. So his wife gave her wedding jewelry to Tahrik-e-Jadid.
Amir Sahib of Lahore writes that a lady's promise for Tahrik-e-Jadid was of a good standard. She was wealthy, a person of means, but even then when she was requested to give more with reference to completing the target, she immediately got up and went to the room and brought a box of jewelry and said that all this has to be given in the way of Allah the Almighty anyway. So she took out heavy bangles from it and presented them in Tehrik-e-Jadid.
Now see, one woman lives in the south of India. Different tribes, different people, different nations, different languages; one lives in Punjab, Pakistan; third lives in Germany but the spirit and thought of making sacrifice is one. This is unity. These are the standards of sacrifice that the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) created in the community. These are the graces of Allah the Almighty which Allah the Almighty bestows upon Ahmadis.
Describing the incident of a sincere person of the African country Mali, the missionary there writes that he was posted in the region of Segou in Mali. One day, after the performance of Friday prayer, the Mu'allim Sahib introduced a person to me, saying that he is from the biggest family of clerics and he has done bai'at. He said I have come to give a donation because I heard today on the radio the sermon of Khalifatul Masih about donation. He says I narrated to him the verse لَنْ تَنَالُوْا الْبِرَّحَتّٰی تُنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا تُحِبُّوْنَ to explain to him the blessings of spending in the way of Allah. So he was very surprised and said that in the sermon I heard on the radio, I had heard this same verse. I had thought of giving five thousand CFA as donation but later Satan put doubt in my heart that only two thousand CFA is enough, but now when you have recited this same verse again, my heart has become certain that this is the system of Allah the Almighty and now I will give five thousand CFA as donation. So he gave five thousand CFA as a donation. So by the grace of Allah, new bai'at holders are also advancing a lot in financial sacrifice now. The way Allah the Almighty grants grace to those who make sacrifices and the way sacrifice bears fruit and then as a result their faith and sincerity increase further, I present some examples of this.
Ibrahim Sahib from Congo narrates that I am a farmer and do agriculture. Previously I used to make less financial sacrifice but since I started paying donations, the production of my crops has increased greatly. The importance of donation has become clear to me and I have now started regular payment of donations, due to which this life of mine has changed.
Then a lady Maryam Sahiba from Congo narrates that I also do agriculture. Now I have started paying a donation after every harvest and my experience is that after paying a donation my income doubles.
Then our missionary from Congo writes that an Ahmadi friend, Ahmad Sahib, was given encouragement for donation. He pledged twenty thousand francs for his Tahrik-e-Jadid although in those days he was unemployed, but just one week after writing the pledge he got employment and nowadays he is working as a manager in his field and is paying donations regularly and says that this is all the blessing of donation.
Then Naib Wakeel-ul-Maal from Qadian writes that a friend from a community Pathanapuram in Kerala told me on the phone that he had announced the new year of Tehrik-e-Jadid last year and mentioned sincere ones (in the sermon I had given examples from Africa) who participated abundantly in Tehrik-e-Jadid donation despite poverty, and we are still people of means anyway. He says that this friend said that is why my Tahrik-e-Jadid donation pledge of two hundred thousand rupees is very less, increase it to five hundred thousand rupees. Saying this, he started crying and he says he also wrote me a prayer letter to complete the promise. Naib Wakeel-ul-Maal says after some time, while touring the province of Kerala, I met him and he fully paid his donation and said that as soon as I increased the Tehrik-e-Jadid pledge, Allah the Almighty put endless blessings in my work and now I have so much work that it is difficult to handle.
Then Ibrahim Sahib, Inspector Tahrik-e-Jadid in Karnataka, says that a servant of Gulbarga community, responding to the call of Hazrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) pledged his one month's income of seventy-three thousand six hundred rupees for Tehrik-e-Jadid donation, but at the time of payment he made payment of one hundred thousand five hundred eleven rupees with an extraordinary increase. As a result, Allah the Almighty showed him a miracle that a large amount of his was receivable from a person. After repeatedly demanding, he had become tired and completely disappointed about the return of that amount. But one day that person came unexpectedly and apologized and paid the entire amount.
How Allah the Almighty creates strength in faith through financial sacrifice, scenes of this are also visible in different places in the world. A newly initiated friend from Uzbekistan, Vahidovich Sahib, says that I have been residing in Moscow for such a long time and according to a routine I have an idea of how much income I will have this year. But this year since I did bai'at and started giving donations, there has been an amazing increase in my income. In the past thirteen years I have not had as much income as I have had this year and now I have complete certainty that this is the blessing of spending in the way of Allah the Almighty.
The missionary of Kaya region of Burkina Faso writes that a member of the community of a village Tapgo came to the Mu'allim Sahib there one day and said that he wishes to perform Hajj but does not have resources at present. At this, the Mu'allim Sahib told him that you should become regular in your donations. Allah the Almighty will Himself improve your financial conditions and will also create means for going to Hajj. After this, he started paying his donation regularly. After some time, he came and told me that Allah the Almighty has fulfilled my wish and arrangements have been made for going to Hajj. He expressed that all this happened due to the blessing of donation. Now he has also returned after performing Hajj and is regular in his donations.
The president of a community in Burkina Faso said that there were a lot of financial constraints in a person's house. He also wanted to start a project but could not complete it due to lack of money. During those days, he had the opportunity to go to the annual gathering of Burkina Faso. After hearing there about financial sacrifice, he decided that after reaching home he will definitely join in donations. Whatever arrears there are, he will also pay them. So as soon as he returned, first of all he paid his outstanding donation and also promised to pay the donation on time in the future. He says that not even a month had passed after this when all household problems started being solved and the project was also completed by God's grace and all this blessing was due to paying donations.
Amir Sahib of Canada writes that a few years ago a friend had a loss of two to two and a half hundred thousand dollars in some financial matters. His attention was drawn that you should pay your obligatory donations regularly. This will put blessings in your wealth. (It should also be clear that general donations etc. are also necessary to give.) After this, he started paying obligatory donations regularly. He said some time ago I read the direction of Hazrat Musleh Maud (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Tahrik-e-Jadid donation should be paid in the initial months. So acting upon this direction, I started paying donations at the beginning of the year and for the past three years I have been paying donations at the beginning of the year. As a result, Allah the Almighty bestowed such grace upon me that all my debt was paid off and not only was the debt paid off but financial ease also started increasing. There is no doubt that by spending in the way of Allah the Almighty, Allah the Almighty certainly grants grace.
Amir Sahib of Canada himself writes that a friend started his business and pledged one thousand dollars in Tehrik-e-Jadid. At this he was encouraged that next year you have to increase your pledge and write at least five thousand dollars. Also it was said that keep writing to me for prayers. May Allah the Almighty give you the ability to complete the promise. So at the end of the year, when the Secretary Maal went to him to collect a donation, he said that Allah the Almighty has put great blessing in my business and instead of next year, I will pay five thousand dollars this year and will try to increase further next year.
Amir Sahib of the USA writes that a friend from the Seattle community narrates that in Pakistan in 1974 and then in 1984 our businesses were burned. But whenever damage was inflicted on our business, every time Allah the Almighty, granting special grace, put several blessings in our wealth. So this person pledged one hundred thousand dollars this year and told them that by the grace of Allah, now they are doing business on such a large scale which they could not even think of before.
Similarly, a member came from Chicago with a check on which thirty-eight thousand four hundred fifteen dollars was written. When this member was asked why this particular amount was written, he answered that whatever amount was in my account, I have written all of it and presented it. There are also such people in these countries who, while living in this developed world, make sacrifices for the sake of religion and give everything. Those who are newly coming are also advancing in sincerity and faithfulness.
There is a friend from an Arab country who did bai'at in November 2011 but last year his wife also did bai'at. When the Secretary Maal was asked about them, he told that both husband and wife were discussing among themselves that Jamaat Ahmadiyya is the one which spends in the way of Allah the Almighty in the best manner. Therefore, one should spend in the way of God through them only. His wife was not Ahmadi before. Now by the grace of Allah the Almighty she has also joined the community by doing bai'at and this year both husband and wife have paid a donation of approximately fourteen thousand pounds in Tehrik-e-Jadid which is the biggest sacrifice made by any family from their local community.
Amir of London Region writes that the Wooster Park community was encouraged to complete the target of Tehrik-e-Jadid. A family there, when they were encouraged to donate, gave the money they had saved for going on vacation in Tehrik-e-Jadid and preferred to stay at home during the vacation instead of going somewhere.
Countless incidents of financial sacrifices of men, women and children come to the fore. In this age, as I said, the world's priorities are towards worldly pleasures and comforts. But Ahmadis make sacrifices for the sake of Allah the Almighty's pleasure. A missionary from the Iganga region of Uganda writes that he drew the attention of a member of the Buso community to complete the Tehrik-e-Jadid pledge. The poor people did not have anything else. There was one rooster at home, they immediately presented its price which was equal to their pledge. They said that at this time I don't have any other money. I also have to pay children's school fees. But I will do that later now. First you take my and my family's donation.
National Secretary Tehrik-e-Jadid of the USA writes that an eleven-year-old boy was saving money to buy a video game. Generally at this age children are very fond of video games and they don't see anything except video games. But when this boy was encouraged to donate to Tehrik-e-Jadid, he paid the one hundred dollars he had saved for buying video games as a donation. Thus this child showed fulfillment of the promise of giving priority to religion over the world. Besides this, many children saved the amount given for pocket money and paid it in Tahrik-e-Jadid donation. Now the thinking of children while living in a country like America is certainly commendable and their parents should thank Allah the Almighty for this. And the way of gratitude is that they should raise the standards of their worship and sacrifices.
The missionary of Iganga region from Uganda writes that in a community of our region, Nachere, a child learned prayer and now he leads prayers in his community and also leads Friday prayer. When Amir Sahib encouraged him and gave him some reward, he paid that money in Tahrik-e-Jadid. Some time after this, this child went to attend a funeral, so prayer time came there and this child gave the call to prayer very melodiously. At this, a person there was pleased and gave him a reward, so he also presented that in Tahrik-e-Jadid as donation. Seeing this child, a passion for giving donations was also created in other children of that community and some children said that we will do digging work and pay donation. They were poor. It is a small village. Poor people. So this year six children of this community received the opportunity to pay more than their pledged donations.
So in every corner of the world, Allah the Almighty is granting such sincere ones to the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) who understand the spirit of sacrifice. May Allah the Almighty grant that this spirit may always progress and everyone may continue to advance in taqwa as well. At this time, while announcing the new year of Tahrik-e-Jadid, I briefly present last year's report. By the grace of Allah the Almighty, the 81st year of Tahrik-e-Jadid ended on 31st October and the 82nd year began. We have entered it and according to the reports that have come so far, this year the total collection in the financial system of Tahrik-e-Jadid was nine million two hundred seventeen thousand eight hundred pounds. Alhamdulillah. This collection is seven hundred forty-seven thousand pounds more than last year.
Despite disturbed conditions in Pakistan, by the grace of Allah the Almighty, they have maintained the standard of sacrifice there and their number is first.
After this, among the countries outside, Germany is in first place. By the grace of Allah the Almighty, there is a very strong spirit of making financial sacrifices in Germany. They are also making sacrifices and abundantly making sacrifices in connection with the construction of mosques there. And their effort is, from everywhere people write anxiously that pray that our mosque should be built quickly and they are ready for every sacrifice for this. But they are also taking full and complete part in other sacrifices. May Allah the Almighty reward them all.
Britain is in second place. USA in third. Canada in fourth. Australia in fifth. India in sixth. A community of the Middle East in seventh. Indonesia in eighth. Then a community of the Middle East in ninth place. Ghana in tenth. Ghana has come up very much from behind and Switzerland which used to be in tenth place has gone to eleventh. And members of Ghana's community have made the most collection or payment this year in terms of percentage of local currency. They have made a sixty percent increase. People of Australia are second in the increase in collection. And then people of Arab countries. Then Canada and other people. Other communities. In terms of per capita payment, among those making notable payments, besides two Arab countries, Switzerland is in first place. Then among small countries, Singapore, Finland, Japan and four communities of the Middle East are noteworthy. Among African countries, overall, those making notable collections are Ghana, Nigeria, Mauritius, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Gambia, Benin. Regarding the total number, I always emphasize a lot that it should be increased. Even if someone gives just a little as a token. Targets were also given to communities for this. This year, by the grace of Allah, the number of participants in Tehrik-e-Jadid has become thirteen hundred eleven thousand. And one hundred thousand new ones have joined this year. Australia has made considerable progress in this. They have made efforts to include and have included approximately ninety-four percent of people. Canada has made a lot of effort and has included ninety-one percent. India has also done considerable work in this regard. It seems their report has not come. I think they are also equal to this. If the report has not been sent, then send it. Besides this, considerable work has been done in this regard in African countries. Mali has done considerable work this year. Burkina Faso, Congo Brazzaville, Guinea Conakry, Cameroon, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa. They have made more effort than before.
